Hamlin Publisher Bob Craig Dies of Cardiac Arrest
Bob Craig 50 publisher of the Hamlin Herald died from cardiac arrest Sunday at Hamlin Memorial Hospital. Born Sept 29 1930 in Brownsville he led the Herald since 1960 after earlier work at the Stamford American. He served as West Texas Press Association president and secretary treasurer for 12 years. Funeral held at First United Methodist Church Hamlin with burial in Hamlin Cemetery.

FUNDay Festivities Rally 900 for Stenholm Fundraiser
Rain failed to dampen FUNDay at Bricksdahl Picnic Grounds where 900 supporters of U S Congressman Charles Stenholm attended the third annual event. Organizers hoped to raise 20000 for the congressman’s re election with special guests Charles Finnell Gary Thompson Omar Burleson and Cindy Stenholm. The Roadrunners provided music as BBQ and watermelon were served. R C Cobb presented a plaque honoring Stenholm for Farm Credit Act Amendment 1980 aiding agricultural exports. Cindy Stenholm praised politics and Washington life while joking about keeping up with her husband.

Stamford names Wichita Falls aide city manager
Wichita Falls assistant city manager Mark Watson, who has served since 1978, was chosen by the Stamford City Council Monday to become city manager. He will start Oct. 5, replacing interim manager Martin Blackburn after Ken Roberson’s July resignation. Watson, a University of Kansas graduate from Lawrence, spoke of moving to Stamford and joining the community. The council narrowed 12 applications to four for interviews and selected the 26 year old KU alumnus from Kansas.
