Rattle Snake Killed At College Lake
A three and a half foot diamond-pack rattler with eight rattles was killed near College Lake by J. W. Fare and his companions after crossing the road near the dam. Fare borrowed a USO shotgun and fired twice to ensure the snake was dead, bringing it to town for display. The second rattler escaped into a ditch. it is the first reported in the area in some time.

Grand Jury Returns Fifteen Indictments in Anson County
Fifteen indictments were returned by the Anson County grand jury last week with six criminal cases on the docket. Trials were to begin Thursday in the 104th District Court, including assaults and thefts, burglary, bigamy, and drunken driving. Indictments also named forgery, two saddle thefts, and a murder related case connected to a July knife slaying.

Two Cars Collide Here Tuesday Near Stamford
Shortly after noon Tuesday two automobiles collided near the intersection of Orient and Hamilton streets on the Avoca highway into Stamford. Only bruises and slight shock were injuries. Glenn Nealeigh of Abilene drove a 1950 Mercury traveling west and hit W. N. Cheek of Stamford in a 1940 Buick as Cheek turned left. Both cars were badly damaged and the Mercury had to be pushed off the highway. Stamford Police investigated.
