Stamford Hospital bids open Thursday at City Hall
Stamford Hospital District announces a bid opening Thursday at 4 p m in the city hall council room for a new million dollar hospital to be built on Avoca Highway with 50 beds and full facilities. Six options exist in the specifications and construction should start within days of contract award, with completion in about a year. Financing includes a 500 000 Hill Burton grant and a district bond issue. Architects are Title and Luther of Abilene. The district board is led by President J L West and Secretary F E Upshaw with members Swenson Mills Stovall Humphrey and Baize.

State to Spend 30080 on Street Here
The Texas Highway Department plans 1968 work in Stamford with a 30080 expenditure for an asphalt overlay on U S Highway 380 from the south city limits to the Wichita Valley Railroad. The Hamlin project will top U S 83 from the Santa Fe railroad to the Katy.

City and Hospital Board Plan Utilities for New Memorial
City and Hospital District officials discussed ways to recoup the investment for water and sewer lines needed to serve Stamford Memorial Hospital. Sewer line estimated at 13 500 and water line about 1 300. City Manager Kerry Sweatt outlined tying the water line to the main bound for Avoca and Lueders, but it must pass under Highway 380 and be cased. The council will meet hospital directors to set a schedule of charges. The council also revisited land in Lake Stamford area near Veda's Camp and adopted a revised sidewalk merchandise display ordinance allowing occasional waivers. A resolution seeks state aid for airport improvements with State Senator Ratliff and Rep Calhoun. Interim auditor report covers through July 31, the period when City Manager Harry Steenson resigned.

Mary Weems Dies at 83 in Abilene Funeral services announced
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Weems 83 will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in Kinney Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roy Moseley of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Weems died Tuesday at 1 45 p.m. in Hendricks Memorial Hospital after a month long illness. Born September 16 1883 in Kaufman County she married H Ek Weems in 1902 and moved to Stamford in 1919 from Corsicana. Surviving are a daughter Addie Alexander two sons Howard Weems and Lloyd Weems 12 grandchildren 11 great grandchildren three sisters R W Blankenship Ellis Baker and Ida Mae Baldwin.
