J. W. L. Davis Funeral Set For Thursday
J W L Davis, 93, longtime Jones County resident, died Tuesday in Stamford San Itarium after a heart attack at his home. Born August 16 1868 in Tyler he moved from Oklahoma around 1930. Funeral at Trinity Baptist Church Stamford Thursday at 4 pm. Burial New Hope Cemetery under Kinney Funeral Home. Survivors include three sons two daughters numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pallbearers named Wayne Baldwin Earl Portwood Matt Youngquist A J McCann Eddie Taylor Leo Ivy.

Mrs. L. O. Sandlin Dies At Lueders
Mrs. L. O. Sandlin 80, a Lueders resident since 1911, died at her home Tuesday after a heart attack. Born July 12, 1881 in Prescott Ark, she married Mr. Sandlin Feb 11, 1900 in Carbon. Funeral Thursday at 2:30 pm at First Baptist Church Lueders with Rev. Louis Markwug officiating. Burial in Lueders Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, five daughters, two sisters, two brothers, nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Joanne Wood Found Dead Buried in Stamford Area
Funeral services for Mrs. C. W. Wood Jr. 29 were held Monday at 2:30 p m in Calvary Baptist Church. She was found dead in her parked car four miles north of Stamford with a vacuum hose connected to the exhaust. The car engine was running when authorities arrived. Survivors include her son Michael Calvin Wood and her parents Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bohannon.

Stamford Jaycees heard Edward H. Phelps of Abilene discuss Camp Sweeney in Gainesville. Since 1949 the center has enrolled over 3,000 diabetic youths, with 117 applications in 1961, and aims to fund a new 20x40 to 40x60 foot swimming pool as a memorial to Max Bentley though short of necessary funds.

Stamford Man Injured Then Found Not Seriously Hurt
A Stamford man working on an oil lease near Abilene was thought to be seriously injured after contacting a 480 volt live wire while wiring a three phase pump. He was treated at Stamford Sanitarium and discharged a few days later. he is the son of Mr and Mrs R S Felts of Lueders and resides at 505 Dodson Drive in Stamford.

Remodeling Work Not Yet Started On City Buildings
Signed contracts with Rose Construction Co. were received in Stamford for remodeling the city hall and Youth Center at a bid of 159500 but no representative has appeared to begin work. The water and tax offices moved to Stamford Inn while the police department and city judge occupy the fire station. Stamford Man Killed in Olney Head-On Wreck
James E. Stites 23 of Abilene died in a head-on collision on FM 1768 five miles east of Olney at 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Two others were hospitalized. The Abilene native moved from Anson in 1950, served in the Navy, and was employed by Gooch Packing Co. Funeral was in Elliott's Chapel of Memories Abilene with E R Harper officiating. Burial in Mount Hope Anson. Survived by his mother, father, two sisters, grandmother, and several nephews.

About 55 percent of Jones County non farm private passenger cars can obtain basic limits public liability insurance for $6 more than 1938 costs under classification plans including the Texas Safe Driving Plan. A typical car meeting conditions costs $36, or $29 with certain discounts. farm cars and other factors adjust rates. The plan aims to allocate more cost to higher risk classes and reduce overall premiums for safer drivers.

Stamford reports the first bale of 1961 new crop cotton delivered August 29 by Joe Nowlin at the C A Douthit Gin. Three additional 500 pound bales followed later in the week. Gin manager Andy Jones and Douthit estimate grade strict middling with one inch staple. no official classing yet. Weather rains helped the crop. weevils present but not damaging.
