Exchange Club Picnic a Grand Success in Stamford
Stamford youths enjoyed the Sunshine Special at Lueders Baptist Encampment grounds last Friday with about 375 children attending. They consumed 1200 bottles of soda, two barrels of lemonade, and 28 gallons of ice cream as local businesses donated refreshments and supplies while Exchange Club members organized games and entertainment.

Stamford tennis players earned four titles at the Rule invitation event with C. R. Moritz winning the men's singles 7-9 6-0 6-4 over Moon Mullins. Moritz and Billy Miller took men’s doubles 10-8 4-6 6-2, while Gene Swenson and John Tubb won junior doubles 6-1 6-2, and Moritz with Mrs. Lloyd Browne captured mixed doubles 6-0 6-2. Each winner received a loving cup for permanent possession.

Oilers Sweep Singles In Senior League Swing
The Iron Mountain Oilers beat Lueders as Avoca Oilers also defeated Lueders in a doubleheader last Sunday. Four runs on one hit in the first inning sparked the Oilers victory, leaving both teams with one win each. Death of J F Gentry Ends Long Illness at 60
J F Gentry aged 60 died at the family home after a long illness. The body was moved to Pine Hill 18 miles from Henderson for a funeral service conducted by Rev H S Hinson and Rev E O Jones with Barrow Funeral Home in charge. Survivors include wife Mary Woods Gentry, three sons Herbert Hoss and Monte, a daughter Mrs Thomas Marry, two granddaughters and a stepsgranddaughter, plus siblings. Burial followed at Pine Hill with extended family present.

Two Small Blazes Cause Minor Damage In City
Two small fires caused little overall damage. The first fire Monday at 5 45 p m struck Western Mattress Factory on the west highway and was quickly put out. The second fire Tuesday at 6 20 p m damaged a servant’s house at a rent house on Fast Oliver street owned by P C Owen, leaving the house partially destroyed and a telephone cable damaged.

New Building Plan for Moran Street Elementary School
Stamford Public Schools will hold a Thursday meeting on September 1 to set a date for a bench election to fund a Moran Street elementary school and a two room addition to East Reynolds Ward school. The plan calls for bonds of 49500 pounds with 6 percent financing, and 45 percent from a PWA grant. The board awaits PWA funds before approval and would include a 14 classrom elementary with an auditorium on Moran Street and a Reynolds Street two room addition.

M P Jackson, 81, a Jones county pioneer since 1886, died last Friday at the home of his son H Jackson in Whittier California. He moved to California four years ago. W Beadle aged 29 a tool dresser for George Callahan had his left hand crushed Tuesday night while working on an oil well at the Sinclair lease twelve miles from Hamlin. He was taken to Stamford Sanitarium for treatment.
