Aspermont Doctor Dies After Car Crash En Route

Dr. F. D. McKnight, 58, prominent Aspermont physician, died from injuries after his Chrysler coupe overturned on Highway 18 six miles east of Aspermont. He left Aspermont about 8:30 PM to visit Old Glory, was found unconscious in a pasture by Hub McCannon, and died en route to Stamford Sanitarium after a brief exam by Dr. Wylie. Funeral plans to interment in Alba. survived by wife and one son.

Legion Plans Uniform Christmas Decorations for Businesses

The American Legion approved a plan to decorate the business district with a uniform Christmas tree and decorative lights, to be delivered December 1–5 at a total cost of $5 per tree setup. The group backs the community Christmas tree project and promotes paying poll taxes. A venison feed for Legionnaires and Ladies' Auxiliary follows a meeting at the Legion Hall.

County Agent to Visit Stamford Each Saturday Morning

C C Jobson Jones County agricultural agent will spend Saturday mornings at the Stamford Chamber of Commerce to consult local farmers. He plans to help rural residents with farming and livestock matters and to discuss community projects with Chamber executives. He notes the move improves access beyond his Anson headquarters.

Thanksgiving clash to decide District Nine title

Stamford faces Roscoe in a Thanksgiving 2:30 pm high school field showdown for the District No. 9 Class B championship. Roscoe relies on a 57-6 conference scoring run as Stamford, led by Walker, seeks regional advancement through bi district play with large attendance anticipated. Retail Merchants To Hold Another Meeting Friday

All signed and interested Stamford business men are urged to attend Friday at 3 p m in the City Hall council room. Details of the Stamford Christmas party on December 28 will be arranged and a general steering committee chosen. Chamber officials emphasize full participation.

Funeral Service Held Sunday For J. M. Cosstephens

Funeral rites for J. M. Cosstephens who died at his East Campbell Street residence on Saturday were conducted Sunday at St John’s Methodist Church with ministers officiating. Burial was in Fairview cemetery near Tuxedo. The Kinney Undertaking company managed arrangements. born in Georgia in 1865 he moved to Texas as a young man settling in Taylor County then later Lager ton and for 22 years Stamford. Surviving are his wife two daughters Mrs W H Peters of Pampa and Mrs W J Buie of Stamford two brothers J E Cosstephens Merkel and H Cosstephens Rochester and other relatives attended.

Stamford shoppers will see a window panorama on Friday December 6 as most downtown windows display holiday goods. The Stamford Chamber of Commerce invites all merchants to participate with a band concert and Santa Claus. preparations include unveiled displays at 7 pm and ongoing church and business district activities.

Merchants to Stage Christmas Party December 23 in Stamford

On Monday December 23 Stamford merchants via the Chamber of Commerce will host a city wide Christmas Party with a band concert and other features. About 36 local businesses have signed on with at least 15 more expected, and a meeting for nonparticipants is set for Friday at 3 PM in the city hall council room.

Stamford Child Teddie Giddeon Dies at Sanitarium

Teddie Giddeon three years old, son of Mr and Mrs M E Giddeon of the Post community, died Saturday morning at the Stamford Sanitarium. The Kinney Undertaking establishment prepared the body for burial and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon.

Stamford Bulldogs Clinch District Title With 39 0 Win

The Stamford Bulldogs crushed the Merkel Badgers 39 to 0 on Merkel turf to claim the eastern District No 9 Class B title and earn a shot at the western winner Roscoe Ploughboys in the district final set for Thanksgiving Day at 2 30 p m. Stamford dominated from the second quarter onward with Sher man Baker Gardner Hagar and Corley starring as the line pushed for touchdowns and extra points despite Merkel’s passing late in the game.

Drive For Funds For Charities To Begin Next Week

A committee from the Exchange club led by Louis Rosenwasser will start fund raising next week for the Associated Charities. The campaign will involve other service clubs and civic organizations to boost cash support for the charity. The Associated Charities women have previously provided clothes, medicine, fuel and aid with little funds, and this appeal aims to back their ongoing efforts.

Exchange Club Plans Banquet for Stamford High Football Players

The Exchange Club will host Stamford High School football players at a banquet soon after Thanksgiving. The club aims to treat the squad to an evening of entertainment at Stamford Inn, with wild duck on the menu after members hunt waterfowl four days or two days prior.
