Two Navy Sailors From Local Families On Sunk Ship

Reed Baize, signalman second class in the United States Navy, is home on survivors' leave after twenty months overseas. He survived two sinkings, a British LST off Algiers and a PT in mined waters. he spent four hours in the water before rescue. He earned three battle stars for Sicily, Salerno, and Southern France. He witnessed the Salerno invasion, saw Lt. Herman Treadwell and Tech. Sat. John Elvin Carlton in Italy, and surprised his mother in Tuxedo with a blue silk bedspread. After 30 days leave, he reports to Oceanside, California, for further orders.
