Stamford SHS Basketball Opens Season With Four Games

Stamford High School begins basketball with four games this week. Varsity boys host Sweetwater while girls travel to Knox City. Boys expect tough district slate starting December 12 against Wylie and December 15 against Anson. Tournaments include Anson, ACHS, Brownwood, and Key City events. JV teams enter ACHS and Knox City tournaments in December and February respectively. Coach Rick Penny cites Colorado City as district favorite, with Wylie and Ballinger as strong challengers.

City vows remedy soon as sewer woes rise at council

At a Friday city council session a nonagenda complaint highlighted a long running sewer breakdown in the 500 block of East Campbell. Rev Jesse Morton spoke for neighbors including Mr and Mrs Hart of 504 E Campbell describing backups under their house, odors, and repeated overflows this year. City manager H R Macomber said crews will rod the city line twice weekly until new pipes arrive, with Thanksgiving week target for installation pending weather.

CPR classes will be held in Stamford on December 4 and 11 from 6 30 to 10 p m in the Stamford city hall council chambers second floor The $1 fee benefits the Abilene Chapter AHA equipment fund Instructors Rick Harrison and Penny Lee will lead small sessions for those in good physical condition Participants may call 773 5169 to register The course covers one man and two man CPR infant resuscitation and complete airway obstructions.

Two rate hike requests face different fates in Stamford council

Centex Cable Vision won approval Friday for a 75 cent monthly rate increase raising standard service from 7.50 to 8.25. Lone Star Gas rate hike was tabled for Dec 1 after detailed discussion showing variable impacts on local bills and a possible minimum summer charge of 3 dollars. The meeting also closed two alleys in Original Addition, previewed Dec 1 for the gas item, and heard from Thomas Barber firm rep Gary Traylor on federal funds aid. A police car was purchased with bids, Lake Stamford Park property transfer was approved, a health officer appointed, and officials announced upcoming items for Dec 1.

Football Banquet Tickets On Sale At Cliff House

Fall Festival of Faith revival led by Dr David Ray

Dr David Ray directs the Fall Festival of Faith and Revival at First Baptist Church November 26 to 29 with music by Amarillo based Dietz Brothers Andy and Phil. Services start Sunday at 10 55 a m and 6 p m with youth program and film. Community meals and youth events follow nightly sessions with transportation provided.
