Stamford Bulldogs Face Granbury Pirates In Regional Showdown

Postmaster announces airlifted mail for service members overseas

Stamford Postmaster L E Million Jr says first class mail personal sound recordings and parcels up to five pounds and 60 inches total will airlift to overseas military post offices. Second class papers and magazines will airlift San Francisco to troops in Viet Nam under Public Law 89-725. Christmas deadlines: surface mail by Nov 10, air to Viet Nam by December 10, and parcels 5 pounds or less by December 1.

Two Gin Fires Reported In Back-To-Back Days

Stamford firemen responded to a burr pile fire at the C A Douthit Gin at 10 43 a m Sunday with wind carrying the flames across the yard but causing no damage to nearby cotton trailers. A second small fire outside the Farmers Co op Gin building was quickly extinguished at 1 50 p m Monday.

Stamford Garden Club Announces Three Category Christmas Lighting Contest

The Stamford Garden Club and city cooperate in Operation Sparkle to host a Christmas Lighting Contest with three categories doors windows and yards. Judges from out of town rate artistic merit originality ingenuity and lighting with top prizes 10 6 and 4 for first second and third. Deadline December 15 with judging between December 16 and 19.

Goodfellows Plan Seeks Christmas Aid From Community Groups

Stamford churches civic clubs Sunday schools and individuals pledge support for the Goodfellows drive to aid needy families this Christmas. Roy Craig notes many groups avoid duplication while providing toys clothing and baskets with headquarters at Swenson Land and Cattle Co. Volunteers will staff the distribution point after the first of the month and those needing help may contact Mrs. Lee Walker at the Chamber of Commerce to be listed and certified.

Paint Creek Seeks Bi-District Tilt with Highland

Paint Creek Pirates clinched District 4-B title with a 53-34 win over Lueders and earn a bi district matchup against Highland. The game starts at 8 p.m. in Roscoe as Paint Creek finishes 82 overall and undefeated in district. Highland stands 7-3 for the season and 5-0 in league play.

Bulldog Band Wins First In Marching

Stamford's Bulldog marching band earned a Division I rating in a regional competition at Big Spring last weekend. Directed by W. E. Mayes the band placed first in Class AA among 12 groups, with 53 bands competing across all classes.

Stamford Announces Christmas Opening With Musical Tree

Stamford vows holiday mood with 2 30 p m kickoff featuring a band, Santa Claus, and the lighting of a 17 foot aluminum musical Christmas tree. Downtown lights come on at 6 p m as the Retail Trade Committee and Stamford Jaycees organize decorations and festivities.

Vasquez Given Three Year Probated Sentence

Johnny Vasquez of Stamford was found guilty of murder without malice in the 104th District Court in Anson and given a three year probated sentence by the jury. He was charged with the slaying of David Munoz on the night of February 26 in Stamford.
