Union Thanksgiving Service at Central Christian Church
The annual union Thanksgiving service will be held at Central Christian Church on Wednesday night November 27 at 7 30. Midweek prayer services are dismissed for this event. Rev W H Griswold will deliver the principal address on Thanksgiving themes. Clergy from several churches will preside and participate with the Stamford Music Club Choral Club providing special music.

John Henry Steely, 64, Stamford grocer for over two decades, died of a heart attack in his sleep Friday. Funeral services were held Saturday at St. John's Methodist Church, with burial in Corsicana Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Mattie Sheffield, daughter Vera Steely, a sister G. J. Powell, brothers G. W. Steely and L. D. Steely, and cousin Clay Steely.

About 500 people attended an all day meeting at the Church of Christ to celebrate the final payment on the church building. The first service was held in November 1937 under John N. Rice’s ministry. Guardsmen to Train Here 10 Days Before Camp Bowie
National Guardsmen of Company K 142nd Infantry report to the local armory November 25 for a 10 day mobilization and training period. They will train eight hours daily, with meals and sleeping arrangements at the armory, then move to Camp Bowie Brownwood for a year of service. departure date set for December 4 depending on mobilization. Recruiters keep signing through November 24.

Death of H H Jared Ends Long Illness in Stam ford
H H Jared longtime area resident died Friday night at 10 15 at his home on North Webb Street after several months illness. Funeral services were Sunday at 2 30 at the First Baptist Church with Rev Dick OBrien officiating. Burial followed in New Hope cemetery. Born August 28 1881 in Georgia he married Zula Jones in 1904 and is survived by his wife three daughters Ola Jared Gertrude Jared and Earl Jared a son five grandchildren two brothers a sister and other relatives. Funeral pallbearers and flower girls were named locally.
