Stamford hunters began leaving this week to reach deer haunts by November 16 opening day. Several parties headed to Saw Tooth Mountain near Alpine, the Big Bend country near Valentine, the Stanton ranch in Culberson county, and Doss ranch in Mason county with groups from Stamford Abilene Dallas Houston Wichita Falls Fort Worth and other areas.

Fires Cause Minor Damage at Two Homes
Damages totaling about $150 occurred at a residence on 646 East Moran Street owned by J. A. Smith after a Friday night blaze in the storage room porch and kitchen wallpaper. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Billington inhabited the house and a child said a match started the fire, which smoldered then flared. A separate alarm at 9:15 p.m. Saturday reported a servant’s house on North Anson Street damaged by a defective flue, with about $50 in losses.

Knowles Child Dies of Burns in Littlefield
Jimmie Lester Knowles, two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Knowles of Littlefield, was burned to death about 12:50 Wednesday while trying to roast corn over a fire in a field. Funeral services were at Avoca Methodist Church with Rev. Joel V. Grimes officiating, burial at Bethel Cemetery Funston. He is survived by his parents and grandparents, Mr and Mrs. L. Knowles of Avoca and Mr. and Mrs. R. McCarroll of Littlefield.

Second Child of Edwin Masseys is Claimed by Death
Larry Alton Massey five month old son of Mr and Mrs Kenwin Massey of Early Mart California died of acute leukemia in a hospital Monday night. The child became ill last Friday. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Tulare California. The baby is the grandson of Mr and Mrs Massey of this city. The older son of Mr and Mrs Edwin Massey died of pneumonia here in November three years ago when only a few months old.
