United Services Planned for Stamford Thanksgiving Service

Churches in Stamford will join for a Community Thanksgiving Service on Wednesday November 21 at 7 p.m. in Central Presbyterian Church. Sponsored by the Stamford Ministerial Alliance the service will be led by ministers from area denominations. Rev Phillip Watson will deliver the sermon with Rev Larry Thomas and T O Upshaw among participants. Special music congregational singing and responsive readings are planned. An offering will support benevolent ministries of Stamford Ministerial Alliance.

Funeral services for Clyde Ake 56 of 203 W Oliver will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Olver Street Church of Christ with minister David Timmons and former minister Dale King officiating. Stamford High to Begin Bulldog Roundball Season Next Tuesday

Stamford High School opens basketball with nine boys and fourteen girls practicing under coaches Raymond Hughes and Dorothy Ver million. Girls focus on A team and start Nov 20 with boys A and B teams, then a busy schedule includes tournaments at Stamford, Merkel, Anson, Colorado City, Aspermont, and more district games through February.

Lions to Host Chill Bean Supper Before Stamford Winter Game

Stamford Lions Club hosts its annual chill bean supper Friday in the high school cafeteria. Serving runs 5 to 7 40 p m. Tickets cost 150 for adults and 1 for students with all proceeds to the Lions building fund.

L C Phillips a retired Stamford furniture dealer died Monday after a six day illness at Stamford Memorial Hospital. Funeral services at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev Phillip Watson with burial in Highland Cemetery under Kinney Funeral Home direction. Survivors include Madge, a son Ewell Phillips of Medford Oregon, a daughter Mrs Robert Glayce Plumer of Brownwood, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. J. W. Lane, former Flo Ferguson and a niece of Mr and Mrs Hollis Haynes, died Sunday in Houston. Funeral services were held Tuesday in Houston. Survivors include her husband two daughters and one sister.

Five Stamford residents hurt in Tuesday crash

A two car collision at New Braunfels and S Anson injured five Stamford residents around 8 30 am Tuesday. Kelly Griggs 7 and Pate 3 were hospitalized with a concussion and a broken collarbone respectively. Mrs Carl Griggs and Mrs Linda Nachbauer with Lisa Robertson were in satisfactory condition at the hospital Wednesday.

New Minister M R Ido Sets Calvary Revival Services

M R Ido installed pastor at Calvary Baptist Church announces revival meetings from November 29 to December 1 at 7 p m with regular services December 2. He began ministry October 21 and studies at Hardin-Summons University. Ido, a California native raised in New York, lived in Texas 14 years and is a 12 year Air Force veteran with wife Norma and three children Randy Kim and Brad. Fort Worth is their hometown.

Brother of Sagerton Woman Dies at 82 in Rule

WC Grisson, 82, brother of a Sagerton woman, died November 9 at his Rule residence. Born March 1, 1891, in Callahan County, he lived in Rule since 1941. Survived by his wife, one son, four daughters, four step sons, two brothers, and six sisters including Mrs. Flossie Bell of Sagerton.

County to ask bids on painting inside courthouse

Jones County commissioners vote to call for bids to repaint large portions of the courthouse. Areas include the county agent offices in the basement the district clerk and county school superintendent offices on the second floor and all of the first floor. The district court clerk on the second floor was recently renovated. The board also set Thursday and Friday November 22 and 23 and December 24 and 25 as holiday closings.

Former Old Glory Resident Dies at 74

Mrs I G Pope aged 74 died Saturday at her Hempstead residence. Born August 24, 1808 in Austin County she moved to Stonewall County in 1908 with her parents. She was the former Roxie Wienke. Survived by her husband two sisters Mrs Garrett Spitzer of Old Glory and Mrs Jack Doty of Garden City and a brother Roy Wienke of Comjor.

Local 4-H Gold Star Winners Headed to Banquet

Jones County youths Jackie Watts of Avoca 4-H and Jay Pace of Hawley 4-H will attend the District 3 4-H Gold Star Banquet in Vernon on November 20. Commissioners approve voting box realignment in Stamford area

Voters in Tuxedo will cast ballots in the West Box in Stamford under a plan approved by the Jones County Commissioners Court. New district lines move voting sites along Vanderbilt Swenson New Brandes and Ferguson Street to city limits. Residents north of Lueders switch to Avoca and Hamlin precincts adjust with a box near the city limits in Precinct 1 while a 100 voter box rule tests turnout.
