Proposed Cotton Research Plan To Be Explained In Meeting

A Texas A&M Extension Service team will explain the 1966 Cotton Research and Promotion Act proposals in Stamford. The Wednesday 2 PM meeting at Stamford High School Auditorium will present pros and cons, with information from four regional hearings and the legislation itself. The talk notes the ongoing decline in U S cotton markets and a record carryover of 165 million bales.

Completion Date Extended United Fund drives Stamford

Stamford's United Fund progress reached 82 percent of its $12 500 goal with a plan to extend the completion date to November 15 announced by co chairman I O Hughes. He said 11 firms reached 100 percent through employee and business contributions and more firms are expected as division cards are processed. Other 100 percent groups include Brazelton Lumber Co KDWT Radio J C Penney Co M System Rolling Plains PCA First National Bank and H H Theatres. The meeting urged workers to finish card collection promptly.

County Endorses Demos and Senate Races Compared

John Tower won re election to the U S Senate with 746 440 votes while Waggoner Carr had 972 071, Gov. John Connally beat T E Kennerly 887 286 to 319 714. Jones County showed close results in the race with Tower ahead by 84 votes and approved11 of 16 constitutional amendments but Proposal No 4 was defeated statewide.

Murder trial set for November in Stamford

Johnny Nieto Vasquez faces a murder charge in 104th District Court in Anson. The trial is scheduled for November 21 for the killing of David Munoz outside the Grand Theatre in downtown Stamford on the night of February 26.

Christmas Time Goodfellows Organize to Help Stamford Needy

A Stamford Christmas relief effort forms as clubs and churches join in a Goodfellows drive. Roy M. Craig and Clyde Westfall named co chairs, Mrs. Lee Walker secretary. Applicants file with Walker at the chamber office, a screening committee to verify need, and a fund drive will open soon. A downtown building will accept used clothing.

Brush control urged as Texas wide problem by expert

Norman Sachnik of the San Angelo based Range Engineering and Development Corp told Stamford Rotarians that brush like mesquite drains water and reduces grass cover. He cited Texas as home to a quarter of the nation's brush and praised a chemical foam method, noting two yearly treatments work best. About 190 farmers attended.

Trinity Baptist Hosts Revival With Guest Evangelist

The Rev. Norris Taylor of First Baptist Spur will lead a week long revival at Trinity Baptist Church from November 14 to 20. Services include a 10 a.m. morning service and 7 p.m. evening service daily, with a nursey provided and Sunday service at the regular time. Stamford DECA installs 1967 officers at Cliff House

Miss Virginia Rutlege addressed the Stamford chapter during the installation banquet as Larry Teichelman led the event. New officers pledged were Larry Teichelman president Sharon Wigley vice president Jean Gray secretary Marian Homer treasurer Ann Rasco reporter Sammy Byars historian and Jerry Morton parliamentarian. Bill Decker presented pins while Sammy Byars provided guitar entertainment.

Stamford Homecoming set with queen selection and reunions

Large turnout anticipated for Stamford High School Homecoming this Friday and Saturday. Registration opens 3 p.m. Friday at the auditorium with a chili supper, later a football game and queen selection. Saturday includes talent events, a noon luncheon at the Armory, and multiple class reunions across town.
