New Cotton Loan Program Set At Base Rate 8 3
The agriculture department inaugurates a government cotton loan program with a base rate of 8.3 cents a pound for middling 7 8 inch cotton. Loans apply to 1939 grown cotton under government loans, with regional storage differentials and ports at 9.2 to 9.3 cents. Officials foresee a future cotton shortage and higher prices, noting parity around 16 cents. Only cooperating producers meeting acreage limits qualify for full rates. non cooperators receive 60 percent of the cooperative rate. Premiums and discounts for grade will follow in a later schedule.

Engineer Dies At Throttle Of Wichita Valley Train
Thos H Cardin engineer died of a heart attack on the Wichita Valley run six miles north of Abilene. The motor coach halted, passengers and conductor investigated, body removed at Anson, relief engineer E L Mattoon sent from Stamford. Cardin, born in Fort Smith Arkansas, buried there Monday. Survived by wife and son Pat. Stamford men attended the funeral.
