The Stamford Bulldogs host the Anson Tigers on Armistice Day Tuesday November 11 at 2 p.m. The game could break a three way tie for first place with the Hamlin Pied Pipers also in contention.
Anson has two wins and two ties, Stamford stands three wins one loss, Rochester and Rule schedule non conference at Rule for Armistice Day. Only one district game this week. Kell and Albany both winless meet in Albany. Throckmorton visits Own Park. field conditions slow play with several penalties.
Private Stanley H. Hall of Stamford Texas has been transferred from Jefferson Barracks Missouri to the Air Corps Gunnery school in Las Vegas Nevada. He is assigned to the 352nd school squadron and is undergoing recruit training after enlisting August 14 at Dallas. Hall is the son of Mr and Mrs Stanley H Hall Sr of Stamford and a 1941 graduate of Stamford High School.
Attorney general Gerald Mann will be the principal speaker at the Armistice Day banquet for ex-service men and their wives, hosted by the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. The event in Stamford will start at 7 pm on November 11 at the Junkhouse, with music, an invocation by Rev. Dick O’Brien, and a dance at Round up Hall. Tickets cost $1 and cover the dance admission. advance sales advised.
The Reynolds Street PTA will hold meetings this year at the high school auditorium. Mrs. Charles Markham, chairman, announced the first gathering for Tuesday afternoon November 18 at 4 p.m., moved from Wednesday due to Thanksgiving holidays.
Avoca and O'Brien six man football teams prepare for a district 3 conference game at Bulldog stadium in Stamford. Avoca, new to the district, faces a heavier O'Brien lineup as both teams outline probable rosters and rule differences for a 40 by 80 foot field and four down plays.
Bill McDonald son of Mrs. Sarah Inglish McDonald of this city received his aviation instructor's rating and commercial license at Lubbock last week. He has been recommended as one of two students from his class as a civilian instructor for army training of flying cadets and is awaiting further instructions. He completed four civilian flying courses sponsored by the CAA in the past two years and earned his degree from Texas Tech last spring.
Brigadier general rank awarded to J B Coulter who has served as commanding officer at Fort Meade South Dakota for the last two years. He is the father in law of Sue Morrow wife of J B Coulter Jr. from the local area.
The Texas Department of Public Safety assigns E. W. Green to Stamford to run license examinations under the new drivers license law. Stamford days include Mondays and Saturdays 8 to 5, with other slots in nearby towns. Expiration dates vary by license number with renewals starting in 1941 and new licenses valid two years from issuance.
Excavation for the Opew Bethel Lutheran Church began in November 1939 with the cornerstone laid October 13, 1940. By fall 1941 the Gothic structure near completion features native rock walls, 104 by 60 feet, 100-foot spire, seating 450 to 500, multiple entrances, and a cost forecast higher than $25,000 due to labor and material increases.
Paul Corley, who left Texas for active navy duty in San Diego, is due Thursday night for a short visit with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Corley before reporting to Boston, Massachusetts, where he has been assigned for shore duty for about a year.

Funeral services were held for George Christopher Savage 69 at Bethel church Funston with Rev. W D Fielder officiating. He died Tuesday in Hereford at a son's home. Survivors include five sons and seven daughters plus grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kinney Funeral Home arranged the services.
Twin brothers Boyd L. Booth and Buford A. Booth of Williford Arkansas arrived for primary training as flying cadets at Stamford A I Field and will be assigned to the same instructor. The new class includes 110 cadets this week with 108 already here by Thursday. Most come from Minnesota Nebraska and Arkansas and total enrollment reaches 183 cadets, the largest since opening, including 75 upperclassmen.
The annual Red Cross Roll Call runs from Armistice Day through November 27. Jones County quota rises to 2100 members from 1200. Mrs. Dudley Duncan of Stamford named county roll call chairman. Cash Wilemon has been appointed district manager for Oklahoma for the National Disinfectant Company and will begin work immediately. The Wilemon family will remain in Stamford for the present.
Gladys Martin, serving since 1926, charts Jones county home demonstration work for 1941 through October 20. Twelve women and twelve girls clubs reported 173 and 178 members respectively, focusing on poultry food crafts clothing gardening and canning. Girls met clothing goals while generating 2560 quarts vegetables and 1895 quarts fruit. mattress and comfort program totals 1486 mattresses and 802 comforts completed with 22 supervisors across 21 centers.
At a Tuesday banquet by the church Sunday School Adult department, plans to redecorate the auditorium of the First Baptist Church were discussed. Proposed improvements include wall redecorations, a modern lighting system, floor coverings, better seats, and repairs in the primary and junior departments with an estimated cost of 1500 to 2000 dollars.
The Makes Final Report Planning Committee completed a survey and paired results with county home demonstration plans. The vents from the study will guide the home demonstration program for the coming year.
The circles of the W. M. A. at First Baptist Church will not meet Monday afternoon. Women are urged to attend the state Baptist convention in Abilene if possible.
Two scientists at the Texas College of Arts and Industries report experiments suggesting blue bugs could play a role in spreading fowl paralysis, indicating a new vector to study.
Miles explained a parole procedure for juvenile delinquents at the Exchange Club meeting. Ten members offered to have boys paroled to them as the club works to reduce juvenile delinquency in Stamford and Jones county. Zander Carr performed piano numbers during lunch and Miss Vera Steely was chosen to attend a district Camp Fire meeting in Wichita Falls as guardian of the club sponsored group.
Several Stamford men including Sterling Bowen Don Knowles Pete Fergusor D D Smock and Garland Mitchel received honorable discharge within the past week after service in the National Guard. They were in Company 142 Infantry stationed at Camp Bowie Brownwood. Additional discharges are expected after the first year ending November 25.
