Transfer to Gunnery School in Las Vegas Soldier Stanley H Hall

Private Stanley H. Hall of Stamford Texas has been transferred from Jefferson Barracks Missouri to the Air Corps Gunnery school in Las Vegas Nevada. He is assigned to the 352nd school squadron and is undergoing recruit training after enlisting August 14 at Dallas. Hall is the son of Mr and Mrs Stanley H Hall Sr of Stamford and a 1941 graduate of Stamford High School.

Gerald Mann to Speak at Annual Legion Banquet

Attorney general Gerald Mann will be the principal speaker at the Armistice Day banquet for ex-service men and their wives, hosted by the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. The event in Stamford will start at 7 pm on November 11 at the Junkhouse, with music, an invocation by Rev. Dick O’Brien, and a dance at Round up Hall. Tickets cost $1 and cover the dance admission. advance sales advised.

Bill McDonald Earns Flight Instructor Rating at Lubbock

Bill McDonald son of Mrs. Sarah Inglish McDonald of this city received his aviation instructor's rating and commercial license at Lubbock last week. He has been recommended as one of two students from his class as a civilian instructor for army training of flying cadets and is awaiting further instructions. He completed four civilian flying courses sponsored by the CAA in the past two years and earned his degree from Texas Tech last spring.

By fall 1941 the Gothic structure near completion features native rock walls, 104 by 60 feet, 100-foot spire, seating 450 to 500, multiple entrances, and a cost forecast higher than $25,000 due to labor and material increases.

Savage Rites Held for G C Savage at Funston Cemetery

Funeral services were held for George Christopher Savage 69 at Bethel church Funston with Rev. W D Fielder officiating. He died Tuesday in Hereford at a son's home. Survivors include five sons and seven daughters plus grandchildren and great grandchildren. Kinney Funeral Home arranged the services.

Arkansas Twins Join New Class of Aviation Cadets

Twin brothers Boyd L. Booth and Buford A. Booth of Williford Arkansas arrived for primary training as flying cadets at Stamford A I Field and will be assigned to the same instructor. The new class includes 110 cadets this week with 108 already here by Thursday. Most come from Minnesota Nebraska and Arkansas and total enrollment reaches 183 cadets, the largest since opening, including 75 upperclassmen.

Gladys Martin, serving since 1926, charts Jones county home demonstration work for 1941 through October 20. Twelve women and twelve girls clubs reported 173 and 178 members respectively, focusing on poultry food crafts clothing gardening and canning. Girls met clothing goals while generating 2560 quarts vegetables and 1895 quarts fruit. mattress and comfort program totals 1486 mattresses and 802 comforts completed with 22 supervisors across 21 centers.

Redecorating Plans Mapped for First Baptist Church

At a Tuesday banquet by the church Sunday School Adult department, plans to redecorate the auditorium of the First Baptist Church were discussed. Proposed improvements include wall redecorations, a modern lighting system, floor coverings, better seats, and repairs in the primary and junior departments with an estimated cost of 1500 to 2000 dollars.

Exchange Backs Parole Plan for Delinquent Boys

Stamford Men Released From Army Service

Several Stamford men including Sterling Bowen Don Knowles Pete Fergusor D D Smock and Garland Mitchel received honorable discharge within the past week after service in the National Guard. They were in Company 142 Infantry stationed at Camp Bowie Brownwood. Additional discharges are expected after the first year ending November 25.
