Ratliff Guilty of Theft by False Pretext in Austin Jurors

A district court jury in Austin found former state senator David W. Ratliff of Stamford guilty on theft by false pretext for cashing a $502.18 state treasurer’s warrant paid to his secretary. The defense called character witnesses. sentencing was not yet passed. Trial also involves a conspiracy charge with Rep. John Allen over hiring practices pending later.

Homecoming Brings Stamford Ex-Students Back for Reunion

Stamford High School hosted a two day homecoming with ex students arriving from distant places to renew acquaintances. The event featured dedication of two paintings honoring former officials Superintendent Leroy Johnson and Principal T R Tinsley, while a football loss to Anson 20 to 3 marked the only sour note. Notables included ex student association president James H West as emcee and recognition of two homecoming queens Nina Clark Gower and Elaine Rector now living in Reno and Wilmington.

Stamford United Fund drive progress noted by chairman

Campaign chairman Gary Mathews said the Stamford United Funds drive is progressing well and optimistic about reaching the $13,080 quota. Firms including Coca Cola Bottling Co and Stamford Federal Savings and Loan Association contributed 100 percent, with 60 to 75 percent of donor cards already returned and door to door efforts delayed by rain.

Hospital receives tomography unit for X ray department

Stamford Memorial Hospital announces the donation and purchase of a tomography attachment worth just over $2,000. Radiology Associates of Abilene will arrange for the unit and staff readings three days a week. The new device will allow detailed local x rays with lower radiation, angle views, and multiple levels.
