Revival Meeting Ends Sunday Night at Presbyterian Church

Revival meetings led by Rev. M. B. Harris and Rev. Fred S. Rogers conclude with a Sunday evening service at the Presbyterian church on November 3. Morning sessions at Central Christian Church, led by Rev. Rogers, focus on the Christian Life. The event prompts greater church involvement and letters of members joining other churches. Stamford Film Begins Today With Local Cast

The Alcove Theatre manager S J Hodge teams with Victor Shuler to film a Stamford story titled The Story of Stamford. Local churches schools clubs and city landmarks will appear. Shooting starts today with Stamford versus Roby footage and continues through the weekend with street and church scenes.

Methodist Church Plans Finances Before Pastor Leaves

St Johns Methodist church board of stewards met to arrange finalization of church finances and pursue collection of all unpaid assessments for the fiscal year. Rev R A Stewart will depart November 11 for the Northwest Texas Conference at Pampa, ending four years as pastor and awaiting episcopal appointment.

New Stamford Chamber of Commerce Secretary Takes Post

J C Watson new secretary of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce will assume duties today after a meeting with President T A Upshaw in Stamford. He has rented the Barney Johnson home on Wells Avenue and will move his family from Abilene soon, while Mr and Mrs Johnson relocate to Abilene. Watson has served three years as assistant secretary of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce.

J G Morrow Moved by Air to Army Hospital

J G Morrow former Abilene youth was found unconscious beside highway No 30 north of Stamford on October 21. He was taken to Stamford Sanitarium then airlifted by a Douglas Army transport to Fort Sill Oklahoma. Morrow a West Point Preparatory School student was on pass at the time and will remain in the army hospital until fully recovered. His father W M Morrow said the cause of the injury remains unsolved.

Stamford Improves 36 Blocks Of Streets And 12 Alleys

Stamford completes paving on about 36 blocks plus 11 blocks of downtown alleys bringing total hard surfaced streets to nearly 100 blocks or six miles. Directors of WTCC to elect new manager in Stamford

West Texas Chamber of Commerce directors meet in Stamford on Saturday November 9 to elect a manager to fill the vacancy from Homer D Wade's resignation. A M Bourland serves as temporary head. W B Hamilton who was elected president at El Paso convention will issue the call and lead discussions with new VPs C E Coombes and Houston Harte. They plan a San Angelo conference to split WTCC into 10 regions and nominate a treasurer and ten regional executive members. The El Paso meeting restored the organization's finances by wiping out indebtedness.

Cotton Receipts Total 2912 Bales This Season

Rain slows ginning. 262 bales were ginned in the past week, bringing season total to 2912. Fred Taylor, public weigher, weighed 2452 bales, while W B Harrison at his round bale gin ginned 460 bales.

Revival at West Side Baptist to Start November 3

A revival meeting will open at the West Side Baptist Church on Sunday November 3 at 11 a.m. and continue through the following week. Services are planned each evening at 7 30 p.m. according to Rev. G O Summers, pastor.

November rainfall in Stamford nears three inches

Rain last Sunday added .74 inch to Stamford totals, reaching 2.99 inches for October. The month included .62 inch on Sunday morning and .12 inch Sunday night, with earlier rains on October 13 and 16. Rains boosted winter grains and wheat prospects, while an early freeze destroyed cotton stalks and damaged late feed.

American Legion Hall Undergoing Extensive Repairs

The interior of the American Legion Hall is being remodeled this week. A partition is being removed to add 300 square feet to the main hall, which will be repapered and its woodwork painted. The enlarged room will host all Legion gatherings including this year’s Armistice Day Banquet. The group also plans larger Christmas trees and selling trees proceeds. Sunday Sunday Schools Tie In Stamford Haskell Contest

The Sunday school contest between St. John’s Methodist of Stamford and First Methodist of Haskell ended in a 200 200 tie. A rerun is set for next Sunday per superintendent agreement. Rain reduced attendance. Stamford led in total attendance while Haskell gained in remaining members for church service.

Vernon D. Hart Post in Stamford won the 17th District American Legion attendance contest at Cisco on October 26 27 with 960 man miles to Brady 900. Stamford earns permanent possession of the loving cup. next convention in February. Chuck Wagon Feed To Be Big Feature Of Institute

The 350 teachers attending a cooperative institute in Stamford will arrive by train and automobile. Registration opens at 8 a.m. with sessions today and Saturday. A chuck wagon feed at noon Saturday on the High School campus, courtesy of West Texas Utilities, features two beef meals with beans potatoes and peach cobbler. Youngblood Backs Efficient Butter Fat Boost at Low Cost

J H Youngblood of Mc Lennan County Cow Testing Association reports butter fat production at 6.6 cents per pound in one month and under 10 cents per pound over the past four months. His feeding system mixes cured hegari with cottonseed meal and pasture. Cows yielding over 20 pounds of milk daily receive ground oats, and 500 tons of hegari were harvested from 50 acres with a similar yield expected from a second cutting.

Mr and Mrs R C Thomas have returned from Austin where they attended a school of instruction for secretaries of state credit bureaus. In Austin they stayed with college friend B F Williams, head of the reclamation and engineering department. Fly paper is now made luminous to attract flies at night.
