The Stamford Electric Cooperative Inc. received a $250,000 loan from the Rural Electrification Administration to build about 200 miles of distribution lines in Haskell Jones Shackelford and Stonewall counties serving around 425 members. Poles are being set now but transformers and conductors are scarce. service should begin soon after materials arrive. The funds were applied for in December 1945 and again in June 1946, according to manager C M Lester.

Miss Lua James 45 of Dallas died Friday night May 2 in a Baird hospital after spending April in Baylor Hospital Dallas. She was a former Stamford Gas Co. employee and, for 14 years, with the Internal Revenue collector’s office. An active Scofield Memorial Church member, pallbearers included church elders. Bibles were requested in lieu of flowers. Surviving relatives in Stamford include her mother Lua James of Baird and sister Brandon Curry of Big Spring with several nieces and nephews noted.

Lueders School Head Resigns Position
C. T. Berkman, superintendent of Lueders Public School for two years, has resigned effective July. Berkman had served many years in the Lueders system as principal and teacher and became superintendent after his discharge from the Army Air Forces in 1945. Water in the Clear Fork dam at Lueders flows into the city reservoir as a week of rain ends bad tasting water. Bowdry estimates a Monday clearing and a 12 day reservoir fill with 90 to 120 days of good supply. Total rainfall since Friday reaches 5.27 inches by Monday morning.
