Drive for Boy Scout funds planned in Stamford
A drive to fund Stamford Boy Scout programs will start next week on Wednesday. A new financial program will be devised and pledges renewed. A. C. Humphrey, the local financial chairman, will convene a meeting of committeemen scoutmasters and others Friday night at the Scout building to form the drive. Stamford residents are urged to contribute generously as previous year staffing shortages have been resolved and the scouting program gains new momentum.

Scouts to Hold Summer Camp Near Winters in June
Boy Scouts from Jones and Has kell counties and five other counties in the Chisholm Trail Council will attend a summer camp near Winters from May 31 to June 6. Stamford Scouts may attend three days. Meals cost 85 cents per day or $2.55 for three days with a $1 deposit. Each troop provides transportation. The camp sits on Bluff Creek four miles south of Winters on Winters Country Club land, near State Park Board property. Equipment lists include tents, cooking gear, uniforms, bedding, and personal items.

Forty Boy Scouts Attend Camporee in Fricksdale
About 40 boys from four troops attended the Jones County camporee at Fricksdale. Troop 22 led with 350 points, followed by Troops 40 and 42 tied for second, and Troop 41 in last with 160. W. R. Postma praised all three top troops for standard camporee ratings and noted strengths in first aid relay, camping, cooking, and leadership, with fire building as the main weakness. Next board of review in Stamford is Friday at 8 p.m.

Pioneer Woman Miss Ann Harris Dies at 86
Stamford widow Miss Ann Harris former resident of El Campo died at home 206 West Campbell street at 4 a.m. Sunday after a stroke. Born July 9 1855 near Jonesboro Tennessee she moved to Stamford in 1900 and lived here until death. Funeral Monday 10 a.m. at St John Methodist Church with Rev Cal G Wright officiating burial in Highland Cemetery. She was survived by many nieces and nephews and was active in the missionary society. Kinney Funeral Home directed services.

Wallace Edge son of Mr and Mrs B T Edge living near Stamford is stationed in San Diego California awaiting orders for overseas duty. He enlisted January 6 at age 21 and is a Stamford High School graduate who worked for Safeway Stores before enlisting. Mrs J L Fuqua received Mother's Day wishes from her two Marine sons. A cablegram came from Robert B Fuqua stationed in Honolulu, who has served two years in the Marines. Kenneth Fuqua sent a letter after enlisting five months ago and is stationed in San Diego California. The Corinth Defense Club met Tuesday night April 2 with Seals presiding. Mrs. C L Thurman spoke on the food committee clinic where 10 cookers were tested. The quilting group reported four quilts and seven snow suits donated to the Red Cross. A Bond and Stamp committee was formed led by Thurman with Pritchett and Ratliff. Sagerton Man Reported Lost In Atlantic Ship Sinking
J L Isbel of Sagerton reported lost when a ship sank May 6 in the Atlantic. He had worked on the boat three years as boatman in charge of deck hands. His sister Beulah Mae Ts bel Carnes of near Stamford received a telegram stating Isbel sunk at sea. The last telegram on May 9 said his brothers Floyd and Walter were safe.

The 22 member Apollo Boys Choir directed by Coleman Cooper gave a three part harmony concert at St. John's Methodist in Stamford Sunday night. Monte Knutson, a local boy who joined this spring, performed a duet with Fort Worth’s Brown Tomme and a solo. Fine Arts Club hosted. Rev Cal C Wright gave invocation and C M Lester the benediction. Afterward, choir members were treated to supper in the church dining room and stayed with Stamford families. Monte also visited his parents Mr and Mrs B F Knutson.
