Banquet Honors FFA Members at Stamford Event
Stamford FFA Chapter held its annual awards banquet on Thursday night May 5 with over 50 students attending despite rain. Supt Don Howard and Principal Bill Preston received gifts, while Weldon Holbrooks and W L Medford were thanked as advisors. Lone Star Farmers awards went to Mark Lundgren Mike Gray and Gary Miller with Lundgren named State Lone Star Farmer of 1976 and Outstanding FFA Member.

Don Heller of Stamford FFA was named treasurer for the Double Mountain District at a Hobbs meeting. Cliff Cobb received the Lone Star Farmer award. Stamford High School FFA members Gary Miller Mark Lundgren Wesley Link Mike Gray were among May 5 award recipients. Lundgren and Miller also won Lone Star Farmer and state officer nominee honors respectively.

Stamford Council Hears Lone Star Gas Rate Appeal
Lone Star Gas district manager C R Bellamy outlined an appeal to the Railroad Commission after Stamford council granted a smaller rate increase than requested. He noted two methods for adjusting the rate base age and condition: an observed depreciation study at $6220 cost to be borne by customers, or a city waiver fixing a 5 percent adjustment. The meeting also covered dog bite concerns, an overdue animal disturbance ordinance, smoking in council chambers, and welcomed Jim Astin as Place 4 council member.

Plans begin for citywide cleanup here
Preliminary plans for a city wide cleanup were laid Thursday with civic groups city officials and chamber of commerce reps. A second meeting is set for today at 3 40 in the city hall council room. Cleanup week is May 16 to 21 with Saturday designated as pick up day.
