Two Stamford Homes Burn in Quick Succession
Two fires swept Stamford on Saturday night. The Lyons residence at 399 Nort Wetherbee street and the Coker home at 211 East Handlan street were destroyed or heavily damaged. Lyons insured for 1500, furniture insured, while Coker had 1200 on the home and 800 on furniture. Officials cited freshly ironed clothes in a closed container as a possible cause for both blazes, with Lyons possibly from electrical wiring short. No occupants were home at the times.

Mrs J E Bunkley is in Stam ford Sanitarium with injuries and shock after a Saturday afternoon automobile crash in which the car overturned. Her husband, driver of the car, escaped with minor bruises. The collision occurred on Highway 18 opposite the Bunkley home southeast of the city.

J A Edwards, 50, of Nevida in Jones county, was shot in the left chest and arm and taken to Stamford Sanitarium in a stable condition. His father in law Tener, 71, was arrested by Sheriff Tom Hudson Tuesday night on assault charges. Edwards’s wounds were not serious and he was reported improving at the sanitarium. Sheriff’s reports from Anson via The American’s correspondent say the shooting stemmed from family disputes.

Tom Brooks, city jail inmate, died Sunday morning reportedly from heart disease after being jailed Saturday on a minor complaint.
