Stamford voters will decide a 1.5 million dollar revenue bond election on Thursday March 22 to fund a Paint Creek water system including a dam pumping plant pipeline and filtration facility. Cancelled bonds of 775000 from 1947 will be replaced and a water sale contract with West Texas Utilities will help fund the project. Election at city hall with appointed judges and clerks.

Water supply from Abilene lake reaches Stamford reservoir

Fire destroys Fay Wrecking Co. building and Clark Ranch acres
A Tuesday blaze nearly wiped Fay Wrecking Co. at Fay Anders and sons’ yard, with 1800 feet of hose laid to reach water lines as flames damaged the frame building. The Clark Ranch grass fire burned about 125 acres near Stamford, threatening posts and other structures until controlled by 5:50 pm. A separate Texas Street grass fire caused only fence damage.

Man Dies on His 73rd Birthday Here
Evan Bates Campbell a long time area resident died unexpectedly of a heart attack Wednesday around 11 30 am on his 73rd birthday. He was with workers handling horses between Stamford and Haskell and died immediately after being struck. Funeral arrangements are pending. The body is at Bill Kinney s Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife two daughters and two sons Miss Opal Campbell of this city is one of the daughters Campbell a native of Nacogdoches.
