Landmark Downtown Home to Be Razed for New Country House
A historic downtown residence on Fast Hamilton Street near Prewit Motor Co is sold by Raymond Astin to Ernest Bosse and torn down to provide lumber for a country home. Built by C M Patillo around 1905 06 the Patillo house hosted early Stamford social life and later served as hotel and rooming house before becoming rental property.

Rites Held Here For Automobile Accident Victim
Funeral for Mrs Myrtle M Johnson was held at Kinney Chapel with two ministers officiating. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery. She was 41 and among three killed Saturday on Highway 10 north of Abilene. Survivors include son Bobby Fleming in the Air Force and grandson Farley Fleming. Her mother Mrs Kate Fleming lived in Lueders.

Navy Yeoman David Ratliff Jr Home On 20 Day Leave
David Ratliff Jr a United States Navy yeoman is home on a 20 day leave. He will depart March 26 for Norfolk Virginia where he serves with the staff of Commander Transport Division 22. The ship returned to the United States February 6 after a five and a half month Mediterranean cruise. Ratliff spent time in Paris during the voyage. He entered Navy service January 19 1953. He is visiting with his parents Mr and Mrs David Ratliff and other family members as his father travels to Austin for a legislative session.

Highway 380 Improvement Project Underway in Stamford
Work on the Highway 380 upgrade began this week in Stamford with contractor Stephen Luce of Verdon stating progress will proceed quickly. The plan includes drainage from southeast Stamford, widening from the city limits to the Wichita Valley underpass, curbs and gutters near Vassar Street, and repaving the entire route to the square with cold-mix asphalt. Total cost exceeds $100,000, shared by Stamford, Jones County, and the State Highway Department, with abutting property owners paying for curb and gutter. Detours route traffic west of the radio station toward New Hope road, and a culvert is being built at Bricksdahl and Compton. The project also reroutes water lines and eliminates a low spot through Harmon Park.
