Rev. Sam Morris calls a Thursday night speech amid a tangled Waco dispute over Baylor University allegedly moving to Dallas. A fundraising drive raised about 400000 to 500000, with one donor pledging 125 and later repudiating the pledge amid fraud allegations against Baylor trustees and Baptist authorities.
Howard D Moore a 14 year old Dallas newsboy refused school and lived rough, selling papers to eat. He was tied and doused with coal oil by three boys in a vacant post office last Thursday, catching fire near a heater. He died three hours later as police seek the assailants.
Efforts to let the paving project from the Highway 30 intersection north of Stamford to Sagerton proceed with hopes for award at the April Highway Commission meeting. Financing arrangements are being worked out after past delays due to Haskell county funds tied in banks. A Sagerton meeting drew Sagerton residents along with Stamford Chamber of Commerce Rotary Club and American Legion representatives.
The Bryant Link Company store managers met at the Stamford Inn on Wednesday to review sales policies for the year and compare January February sales with 1941 gains at several outlets. Buyers stocked ladies ready to wear, silk hosiery, shoes, men and women apparel and more. Four members of the Stamford County Line Independent School district board are up for re election on Saturday April 2. Incumbents LH Terry F B Ramey Delly Payne and T A Upshaw have agreed to stand for another term.
Judge Davenport agrees to run for Place No 2 on the city council after A L Rodgers withdraws for not meeting three years residence rule. Rodgers had entered the race on friends’ urging believing two years sufficient. Rodgers learned three years is required and exited. Edwin Cake wins first prize for currant cake in a London bakery contest.
The Stamford American reports a yard and garden contest organized with the Stamford Chamber of Commerce civic improvement committee. Prizes and rules will be published soon and entry blanks are expected next week. the contest is open to everyone in Stamford with no entry fee.

The series reflects insights from the Ep i conference district and invites Stamford and surrounding residents to attend.
The crop loan office for government production loans opens on the second floor of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce Building financed by the Stamford Chamber of Commerce. J. J. Weencraft leads the office, with forms ready and early applications filed this week. The American published the loan regulations summary last week. Spiritual Life Conference in Sweetwater was attended by Rev. G S Shever, Rev. W G Fletcher, and RB C Thomas, led by Bishop A Bea.
The United Charities benefit party at the City Auditorium Tuesday night netted 882 for the charity fund. Bridge games and a forty-steps dance opened the evening with fiddle music by Aut Dial Walter Simpson and H F Jackson and guitarist Wesley. Committee members included Mrs. Burl McClellan Mrs. A H Goldeticker Mrs. J K Brady and Mrs. H P Moody with tickets handled by Mrs. Grady Bowdry and Miss Lois Green.
Judge C F E Coombes spoke at the Stamford Rotary Club at noon Tuesday on rights and liberties under the constitution and issues in law enforcement. J K Brady led the program and introduced the speaker.
Bishop H A Boaz will preach during the second week of a two week revival at St John’s Methodist Church with daily sermons. Dr Pletcher opens with two sermons Sunday and evening services each day next week with Evangelist Bishop Bear joining for the latter week. Music directed by N M Shelley. Bishop Bear arrives from Amarillo and preaches first night in Stamford Sunday.
New officers were elected at the regular Parent Teachers Association meeting held Wednesday afternoon at the High School Auditorium. Mrs. J. L. Rutherford presided. Officers include Mey W. H. Tavman president, Mrs. RK Plated vice president, Me Jack Tewsth second vice president, Mrs. Genson Haynes third vice president, Mrs. T. J. eretover recording secretary, Mrs. Fol Gens corresponding secretary, Mrs. T. J. Walker treasurer, and Mrs. W. OP. McDonald reporter. District PTA meeting planned for Slaton on April 5 and 6. Mrs. J. L. Cook's sixth grade led with two short plays. Mrs. BR. b. Cank's room won the attendance cap.
JW Parckett an engineer on Midway construction in Jones and Haskell counties for eleven years is transferred by the state Highway Department to the Rio Grande Valley as division engineer. He leaves Stamford Thursday. family will stay briefly. He came to the area in 1921 and has overseen road work on Jones county projects and other West Texas tasks. It is not known who will replace him on Haskell County projects.
The Kig new daily freight service between Fort Worth and Stamford began Tuesday. Engineer T J Cook on the first train to Stamford praised the line for creating ten new jobs and urged Stamford businesses to use the service to ensure its continuation. Cook, from Delcon, has operated on the Katy for 27 years and conducts much of his trading there.
The Brown Cracker and Candy Co. of Texas, founded by J. Brown, grew into a $6,000,000 annual operation with Saltine Flakes crackers and cakes. The Dallas plant employs about 1,200 workers, supports a large payroll, and operates 10 distribution houses with 125 salesmen serving Texas and parts of New Mexico.
The Knights Templar announce a sunrise service tomorrow at Bolu Football stadium at 6 o clock. The general committee includes J M Martis I fh Wiaru W E Whittington T J Turner and Jean A White Warren. Commander Tayman leads as general chairman urging all city choirs and musical groups to cooperate. The event is non denominational and open to Stamford residents and nearby towns regardless of church affiliation.
