CAP Planes to Survey Jones County for Scrap
The Stamford Civil Air Patrol squadron led by First Lieutenant Warren B. Tayman will conduct a Sunday March 21 aerial reconnaissance of Jones county farms and oil fields to locate scrap accumulations for the county salvage drive. Captain Roy W. Tayman Returns From Five Week Civil Air Patrol Tour
W B Tayman came back last Friday from a five week Civil Air Patrol duty based at Portal Les New Mexico. He flew his own plane on courier routes to Pyote Texas via Clovis and Hobbs New Mexico. He was to serve 30 days but completed five weeks and is now home resuming his business. He remains liable for call to service and is group commander of CAP Group 819-2 Stamford group.

Leavitt Jewelry Adopts Earlier Hours for Repairs
Leavitt Jewelry will open at 11 a m five days a week and 8 a m on Saturdays starting March 15 to speed repair work on watches and clocks during closed hours. W C Leavitt made the announcement. Mrs Ida Sheffield Patton of Dallas, 69, sister of Mrs J Hu Steely of Stamford, died at 1 p m Wednesday in a Fort Worth hospital from burns suffered when her clothing ignited from an open heater at her niece’s home in Fort Worth. Mrs Patton traveled to Fort Worth February 28 to visit relatives. funeral services will be held Friday in Fort Worth. Surviving are three sons, four daughters, and four sisters.

Wayne Ashburn of Plainview 4-H won the grand championship at the Jones County 4-H FFA Livestock Show in Anson, breeding and showing a calf bred by Roy Arledge of Stamford. F. W. Poe of Hamlin FFA captured reserve honors, with Jesse Ray Ford leading both grand and reserve Jersey females. Results span beef cattle, Hereford, dairy, swine, sheep, and poultry divisions with multiple sales and prizes across Stamford, Anson, Hamlin, Lueders, and surrounding clubs.

Judge Chapman Dies in Abilene of Heart Attack
Judge W. R. Chapman of Abilene died Sunday night of a heart attack. He was buried Tuesday in Mt. Hope cemetery, Anson, after services at Central Presbyterian Church in Abilene. A Stamford native, he served as Jones County attorney, 1898–1902, then 1919–1924 as Sytheth district judge, later on the supreme court commission of appeals. He practiced law in Stamford before joining the bench. He was born March 23, 1872 near Macon, Georgia, and is survived by his wife Ruda V. Davis, a son Walter Davis Chapman in Corpus Christi government service, and a grandson Walter Redding Chapman.

Gerald Vasek eight and Frances Vasek five own each a 100 war bond and a 25 war bond funded by sale proceeds from their steer herd. Gerald bought and sold a steer for 12 and 80.40 dollars, Frances sold hers for 91.72 dollars, with bonds and stamps bought from profits and existing saves.
