Rotarians Donate Forty Books to Local Library
The Rotary club donated about 40 books to the Carnegie Library of Stamford at a Tuesday meeting. Librarian Mrs. George Flournoy reported daily library visits number 25 to 30 with 5,552 last year, noting Latin American patrons from nearby towns also use the facilities. Dr. George Mood praised the librarian and urged support while noting needs such as a library sign, grounds improvement, and reading campaigns. Some Rotarians made cash gifts for the library.

Vernon Man Given Contract for Stamford Highway Work
Stephen Luce of Vernon won the resurfacing contract for Highway 380 within Stamford city limits. Delays occurred after bids exceeded estimates as the Texas Highway Department studied the project. The work includes widening lowering drainage paving Compton street and 150 working days to finish.

Erection of Steel Tanks at New Elevator To Start Monday
The Kimbell Milling Co elevator at Stamford will begin steelwork Monday after delays from a 21 foot grain pit. The plan may add three 44,000 bushel tanks to raise capacity toward 400,000 bushels depending on crop outlook. Foundations and tunnel for the tanks are to be built now and additional tanks may be erected later. Mr Crandell, superintendent, said foundations for the first tanks are ready and 33 foot diameter bottoms will be poured this week. Mr and Mrs Louis Blacksto attended a photography convention in Amarillo. Blacksto named a director of the Texas Photographers Association.

Mrs John Cook Breaks Both Wrists After Fall
Mrs John Cook sustained fractures in both wrists after a fall at the family farm. Her granddaughter Vicki Cook was present when the horse allegedly caused the accident. Mrs Cook received treatment at Stamford Sanitarium for three days before returning home.

Corinth Couple Lead Local Red Cross Fund Drive
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Odstrell collected 47 dollars and 60 cents for the Red Cross campaign and delivered it to Mrs. Frank Gamblin, the executive secretary, on Wednesday at about 3 30 p.m. The community’s report was the first to reach the drive.
