The Texas Cowboy Reunion will run four days starting June 30 with a nightly show except for a July 4 matinee. Directors met Saturday to approve the schedule and format for the event, noting a change to a night show overall.
Funeral service for Mrs. Joe W Lindsey, 35, was at East McHarg Baptist Church with Rev. L D Hull officiating. Burial in Highland cemetery. Kinney Funeral Home in charge. She died Friday at 12:30 p.m. at her parents home, Willie Mae Blancet, Jewitt born 1916. She is survived by husband Lindsey and children Helen Hughes Kenneth Hughes J W Lindsey Jr Preston Lindsey, parents Blanets, two sisters Ruby Little Velma May, six brothers. Sanford's second annual Spring Style show will be held Thursday night March 8 at 8 o clock on the Grand Theatre stage with eight Stamford merchants presenting the latest fashions. About forty models will display outfits from Cobb's Department Store D and H McDonald's Straus Hassen's Atha's Personal Shop J C Penny Company and B and HT. A two hour program includes the family film Gasoline Alley starring Jimmy Lyndon. Grand manager Sanford Hodge Jr announced.
City Manager Grady Bowdry and city attorney Henry Andrews returned from Austin after testifying on a bill that would nullify municipal water rights under Wagstaff law. Andrews attended a League of Municipalities attorneys meeting, while about 10 hours of testimony, mostly against the proposal, preceded the bill's referral to a House subcommittee for further study.
Kinney withdrew from the race for chief of police on Wednesday. He had announced candidacy but said he will devote full time to the funeral home. H. H. Corley, his partner in Kinney and Corley Funeral Home, sold his interest Tuesday.
Mrs. Raymond Astin will open the United Council of Church Women March radio broadcasts with a devotional program for the Easter season. The program airs Saturday March 3 at 5 a.m.
Beginning March 1 Stamford's fire insurance credit will fall from 20 percent to five percent per the State Fire Insurance Commission. The 20 percent credit has been in effect since 1947. Heavy fire losses in the past year prompted the rate change.
Jones county polio drive totals 8114 raised with proceeds split between local needs and the National Foundation. Stamford chair John Reese reports the campaign funded wind up efforts by local women and notes additional gifts from Lueders Avoca and Hawley. Mr and Mrs W H Hargrove relocate to Houston to work at the Ford plant.
Pvt. Tet Lavender, a classification specialist, has arrived in Tokyo Japan after sailing from Seattle on February 12. His sister Nancy at Christian College received a cablegram and promptly informed their parents Mr and Mrs H H Lavender of the news.
A Sunday singing service is set for 2 15 p m at Swenson Avenue Baptist Church with the public invited. Mr and Mrs W W Bennett of Big Spring visited friends and relatives here Wednesday.
Former United States Congressman from Texas Martin Dies will address the Samford Exchange Club in Stamford at 12 30 PM after a joint luncheon with the Exchange Club and Stamford Juniors. He will speak on world affairs and anti communism for a large audience at the Grand Theatre.
The First Baptist Church will observe Opportunity Sunday to present progress on a building program projected at 75 000 dollars with 30 000 already secured. Pastor Res Byron Bryant announced plans for parishioners to contribute and learn what remains, as work continues on remodeling, central air, new organ, seats, and a new parsonage being built.
Mrs Georgia Smith has returned from Dallas where she attended the convention of Beauty Shop operators. She was joined by Mrs Odell Chandler and Patricia Culwell. The Culwell family, visiting from Edmonton Alberta, left for home by plane after visiting Anton relatives.

Howse and Jack Bates entering the police chief race, with E. V. Chastain challenging Roy Arledge for council. Bill Kinney withdraws for business reasons.

Dr. T C Bagby spoke on missionary work in Brazil as part of Simultaneous School of Missions. Truett Black welcomed as a new member.
Graveside rites for Mrs. A M Conant will be held at Highland cemetery Thursday at 4 p m. in Stamford. She died Wednesday morning in Midland where she and her husband had lived. Judge K Coombes will speak at the graveside. Survivors include her husband two daughters Gladys Moore El Paso and Mrs Paul Gardner Abilene and five grandchildren.
Gov Allan Shivers proclaims March 4 10 as Public School Week urging citizens to visit schools. Supt L W Johnson says many visitors are welcomed. Theme cites Texas Public Schools Democracy in Action as Legislature and Board encourage public engagement with education.
The Stamford VFW post hosts a recognition party for the National Guard unit at the armory Friday at 7 30 p m. VFW members say the event honors efforts toward military defense and invite all National Guard and VFW members to attend.
Mrs. John Spencer of Waco, a leading Baptist elementary worker, will speak at the Assocational Training Union mass meeting at the First Baptist Church in Anson. The session begins at 2 30 p m with ongoing Simultaneous Schools of Missions across 22 county churches through Friday night.
Rk E. Harper, minister of the Highland Church of Christ in Abilene, will deliver a sermon titled The Bible and the Dance on KRBC Sunday at 815 a.m. Special emphasis has been placed on the broadcast.
G. J. Jack Bates announces candidacy for Stamford police chief ahead of the April 3 city election. He cites forty years in Stamford and claims to know how to enforce the law without fear or favor, asking for public support.
The Anson Porch Light Parade raised about $200 on Feb. 19, bringing Anson’s total to $1,707.99 for the March of Dimes. County director Mrs FE M Pittman led the effort with county chairmen in the Woman's Division. Other Jones County towns reported totals Hawley $68.40 Avoca $10.57 Hamlin $1,794.86 Truby $16.58 Stamford $4,505.20.
Mrs. R. L. Howse announces her candidacy for chief of police in Stamford. Former Ruby Loop she heads the American Legion Auxiliary and engages in local clubs and service. She asks friends to vote and vows to enforce city laws impartially if elected.
The Stamford Assembly of God Church will hold Sunday dedication services with an all day meeting. Dinner, prepared by church women, will be served at noon per Rev. Vearl Amburn. Missionary secretary A C Bates will speak at the morning worship, with an afternoon service at two. Rev Franklin W. McCorde, on furlough from West Africa, will preach Sunday night. Public invited.
William MacKayfield of the Texas Youth Developments Council will speak at the Commerce and Exchange Club luncheon on Wednesday March 7 about conditions at Gatesville State School for Boys and proposed reforms. He outlines a plan for a new facility costing about 2.2599 million dollars and notes Gatesville’s age and dilapidation. David Ratliff was invited as a special guest.
