Stamford residents learn Captain Frank M. Locke has been promoted to major. He has served as a battalion officer with the 36th Division at Camp Bowie since returning from Fort Benning where he completed a battalion officers training course. Locke traces service to World War I and joined the National Guard in Stamford in 1926, rising annually to captain by 1930. He led Company K, 142nd Infantry, before mobilization and deployment to Fort Benning and Camp Bowie.

Red Cross Sewing To Resume With 17 Machines Ready
The Red Cross sewing rooms will reopen at the old Bomar Heights school after June 26, announced production chairman Mrs. W. P. Lyles. An upstairs room on West McHarg avenue will serve as the production area with 17 machines ready and ample material on hand for the new quota. Mrs. Lyles urged all Jones County women to respond to the call for sewing for war refugees after a two week vacation.

Oris Miller of Anson told the Jones County Exchange Club about a planned cheese plant. He said the county could produce about 20 000 pounds of milk daily with 200 000 dollars annual dairy income, needing 15000 dollars to build. Nine thousand dollars would come from a loan and six thousand from local farmers and business men. The county has many dairy cows, ranking among the top five in the state.
