Rainfall in Stamford City 1.38 Inches at Noon

Rainfall in Stamford at noon Wednesday measured 1.38 inches on the Swenson Land and Cattle Company gauge. The downpour lasted about an hour, flooding streets, with additional showers reported in New Light New Hope and Spring Creek. Albany, Abilene and Haslett experienced rain. farmers seek dry spell to combat weeds as crops look fine.

Lueders Guests Stop Over From Several Texas Towns

Local families from Abilene Anson De Leon Breckenridge Cross Plains and Tyler visit Lueders this week. Residents include Mr and Mrs Lewis Douthitt Misses Louise and Dorris Douthitt and Miss Irene Burnett among others. The group spends time with relatives and friends touring nearby communities.

Robbery Suspect Wounded, Transferred to County Jail

Jack Smith, wounded by Policeman John Estes in the Radford Grocery robbery last Tuesday night, was moved from the city jail to Anson county jail Saturday. His wound in the right leg is healing nicely. None of his alleged companions have been arrested.

Former Stamford Man L. W. Bishop Shot Dead in Sonora

L W Bishop aged 30 from Cuero was shot by Deputy Sheriff William Cook and others in Sonora while officers sought to recover a car reported missing on Main street. Innis Bevins 18 of Stony Point held on car theft. Bishop’s body to be buried in Van Zandt County. Bevins’ hearing set for Tuesday.

Rule Jayton stockholders hold meeting in Stratford

Sam Williams president of Rule Jayton Cotton Oil Co along with R K Wootten and J H Chancellor attended the annual stockholders meeting held at the company's Stratford office. Officers were re-elected including C M Francis C L Widney and T P Talley. Williams and Francis then toured company properties in Haskell and Knox counties and west toward Spur. Wootten is a prominent Oklahoma financier with oil mill gin and banking interests. Chancellor is a Smithville Texas merchant.

Officers Capture 200 Gallons of Home Brew in Stamford Raids

Stamford police with Constable J. D Crow seized about 200 gallons of home brew in raids over several days. About six people, both Black and White, were arrested and the cases sent to the county attorney for prosecution. Most alcohol was poured out. some bottles held as evidence. The Butler family returns from a trip to central and east Texas.

The Better Homes movement hosted by Women's Federated clubs featured talks on refrigeration kitchen efficiency and labor saving devices. Mrs. McGintie introduced aims, Mr. Brady spoke on electrical fixtures, a roundtable answered questions, and a playlet plus music closed the afternoon with punch served.

Wilemon Secures Pontiac and Oakland Agency in Stamford

J L Wilemon, a Stamford auto man, has secured the Pontiac and Oakland agencies. His display is at Bible Tire store, with service at Macon Garage in the same building. Current sub-agency through Abilene dealer may shift to direct company dealings soon.

Pastor W. D. Black to Resume Pulpit After Revival

Pastor W. D. Black of the Church of Christ returned from Red Rock where his revival brought twelve new members. He and family will spend brief days at Christoval then return to preach Sunday and the next Sunday before going to Utopia for a Sabinal River encampment. Rotary Club plans hundred per cent meeting tribute

The Rotary Club will hold a ninety nine percent attendance meeting next Tuesday to honor retiring president Arthur Buster. Dr. Dallas Southard will become president. A musical program featured Misses Mary Bryant Lota Perkins and Dorothy Harlan with encore for Perkins. Rev W C Moffett spoke on Protestant ministry. Funeral Service Draws Large Crowd For R M Kinard

Stamford witnesses one of its largest crowds at a Methodist church funeral for R M Kinard who died June 15 after a year long illness. Rev J Hamblen led the service with assistance from Rev RK A Stewart. Active pallbearers included J J Wisemon and Lir A Blackwell among others. Kinard leaves a wife and three children plus siblings and extended relatives from Denton Van Alstyne Fort Worth and Abilene various out of town mourners attended. Penick Hughes Company officer supervised arrangements.

Man with neck injury recovers after accidental loss in Stamford

Behringer, once paralyzed from the shoulders, travels in a wheelchair and lost a front chair wheel near Stamford. Mrs Guilett Dies in Arlington After Cancer Battle

Mrs Guilett died at Arlington Wednesday morning at 1 o clock after a cancer illness. Funeral plans pending in Arlington. She left Stamford about a year ago and is mourned by husband and children including Dale Middleton Stamford Mrs Marvin Owens Abilene Mrs Jewel Austin Arlington Nick Henry and John Lynn Guilett Arlington with other Stamford relatives. Children were at her bedside last Saturday.
