Trash pickup rescheduled to Friday amid rain delay

Trash cleanup in Stamford postponed from Tuesday due to wet weather and moved to Friday afternoon starting at 3 30 p m. Volunteers and stores are asked to send helpers and trucks. The drive continues for another week with a goal of a 52 week effort to keep the city clean.

Sue Humphrey daughter of Mr and Mrs A C Humphrey of this city earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas Tech in Lubbock. Her major was English. She belonged to Las Chapparitas social club, the Gargoyle and the Press club. She transferred from Baylor University in spring 1946 and graduated Stamford High School in 1944.

Farm Road Extension Right of Way Work Begins

County Judge Roger Garrett announced immediate action to secure right of way deeds for extending the farm-to-market road through Bricksdahl. The 23.8 mile Jones county project will widen from 60 to 80 feet, require additional land, and include fence relocation at county expense with farmers urged to donate land.

Modern Food Market on Rey nolds street and Albany highway marks its third anniversary. Owners Jack Fuqua and J H Blue have built Stamford’s first neighborhood retail venture as the town grows. City Manager Grady Bowdrg reports May-June water and sewer receipts fell versus last year due to heavy rains. Total revenue loss reached 1915.67 dollars despite 1838 additional water customers and 132 more sewer customers.

Couple Recovering After Fort Worth Highway Crash

Mrs. Orbie Lovvorn, critically injured in a February highway accident, moved from Fort Worth to her parents’ Luever home after two operations. Doctors say she is expected to walk again soon. Her husband, also injured, spent time in a jaw cast and is recovering. The couple, married a year, farm in Corinth community with family support and local neighbors aiding with their land recovery after the crash.

Haskell Thanks Stamford Fire Department

The City of Haskell sent a June 8 letter to Stamford Fire Chief Dick Rowland via Mayor Courtney Hunt thanking the department for sending a fire truck to Haskell on June 5 during a Wheatley building blaze. A $25 check to help defray expenses was enclosed.
