City's Disaster Relief Setup In Good Order
Stamford's disaster organization was reviewed Tuesday night and found adequate and in good order with two possible items. Public health and safety committee members heard Dick Rowland explain the setup used for the last three years. They discussed adding a portable generator for power failures and noted hospital emergency lights would cover a few hours. Mrs. Frank Gamblin, a former Red Cross secretary, was renamed to head the disaster committee join ing Dr. George Iryer and Dick Rowland as co chairs. Jimmy West was named assistant rescue chairman under J O Hughes Jr succeeding Curtis Wittee who moved.

Library Receives 500 Books From State Library
The Stamford Carnegie Library received about 500 books from the Rural Library Service of the Texas State Library. Starold J. Marburger, Director, arranged the loan to help Stamford establish a library program. Books cover fiction and non fiction for adults and youth and may be recalled in about a year. A limit of one book per borrower is in effect with new cards at 10c for school age and 25c for adults.

Open House Draws Hundreds At 1403 Compton Street
An estimated three to four hundred people attended the open house Sunday at 1403 Compton Street. The new home was built by Paul Griggs and shown in a joint sponsorship by Mr. Griggs and Lone Star Gas Company. The house was fully furnished by Harkins Furniture. Harkins representatives and Lone Star Gas Company officials joined Mr Griggs to guide visitors through the home.

Work from Weinert to Stamford includes grading, structure work, and asphalt surface. 90 working days. J C Roberts Abilene district engineer says project adds eight foot lanes each side with four foot shoulders. W F Dixon Anson resident engineer will supervise the construction.
