County Almost Unanimous for Wheat Quotas in Jones County
Jones County wheat growers voted 97.2 percent in favor of wheat marketing quotas for 1941. Nationally about 80 percent supported quotas. Over planted producers pay a 2 tax equal to about half the loan value. those within allotment may sell or loan wheat tax free. Acreage figures show a 11 percent 1942 drop for Texas and a 65 million acre national quota set under the AAA.

Joseph Victor Sewell known as Uncle Joe, 78, died Sunday after stroke events. Born August 19 1862 in Hackneyville Alabama, he married Henretta Harlan in 1891 and moved to Jones county in 1905. Survivors include a niece and two nephews. Funeral held at Kinney chapel with burial in Highland cemetery.

A wildcat oil test spudded Wednesday afternoon in the southeast corner of the southwest quarter of Section 1401 BBB&C survey on the 160 acre Oval L. Short tract east of Stamford one mile north of the Humble Camp. F. B. Payne Drilling Company of Dallas holds the contract using electrical equipment. West Texas Utilities Company laid a mile and a half of new power line to supply electricity.

Soil Conservation Talk Led By J F McCulloch At Exchange

Dinner Dance Honors Cadet Grads at Arledge Field
The first graduating class of the Air Corps Arledge Field, 19 cadets, plus 80 cadets with dates and six guests, were honored at a dinner at the Stamford Arledge mess hall and a dance at the Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds. Guests included Lou Foote Flying Service personnel. Dates hailed from Stamford nearby towns and Nebraska Iowa Kansas. The event featured Western table decor, wing tokens, and a dodo bird ritual. An airport control tower announcement system opened the dance, with a Camp Barkeley orchestra and a KRBC radio broadcast hosted by cadet Frank L. Weatherbee.
