Father White Leaves Stamford Parish After 40 Years In Service

Father Stephen White ends four decades at St. Ann's as he assumes duties at St. Patrick in Brady. He leaves with a community focus evident in his civic work for the Stamford Area Mental Health Mental Retardation Outreach Center VIP Club Stamford Day Care Center and Cinco de Mayo celebrations. His final engagements included luncheons with the VIP Club and a party with MHMR clients.

TCR parade offers $700 in prize money

The 50th annual Texas Cowboy Reunion nears, with parade plans under way and $700 prize money announced for contestants. The event promises a gala atmosphere and community celebration ahead of the reunion.

City accepts three bids for roof repairs total 9147

Stamford city council acts in regular session to approve bids for roof repairs at city hall and nearby buildings. Lydick Hooks Roofing of Abilene submits the largest 6200 bid for city hall hail damage, Barr Roofing offers 1363 for Youth Center and 1584 for the library, both Abilene firms. The council also appoints John McGaughey as MHMR Social Services Board chair and Rev Clyde Cook to a board vacancy.

Golden Anniversary Hostess Named for Texas Cowboy Reunion

Peggy Childress formerly Peggy Ivy, born in Stamford and a Mary Meeks Nursing alum, is introduced as the Golden Anniversary Hostess for the 50th Texas Cowboy Reunion to be held in Stamford. She and sponsor Lori Medford plan entertainments for visiting sponsors as Johnny Childress coordinates with the Western Art Show.

Stamford High School awards seniors with numerous scholarships

Stamford High School seniors received diplomas and various honors on Thursday night. Notable awards included Rotary Club Scholarship for Billy Gilbreath and Robin McCandless, Lions Club for Gary Neuman, VFW and Ladies Auxiliary for Kevin Wade, and Best All-Around Senior for Kenny White. Valedictorian Elaine Golden posted 96.81, salutatorian Jymann Hokanson 96.50, with Ken Pierce at 95.36. Juniors Leila Goree and Jennefer Hickman also earned class honors, along with sophomores Lori Schoonmaker and Mandy McKeever, and freshmen Teresa Mueller and Lenore Baez.

Activities galore for 50th Texas Cowboy Reunion

Eugene C. Swenson, president of Texas Cowboy Reunion, Inc., announced plans for the gala 50th anniversary Texas Cowboy Reunion on July 25. The event will attract top amateur rodeo cowboys from a wide area, continuing the long-running celebration.
