Moody Bryant Leads In Jones County Election Returns

Jones County early returns show Moody Bryant leading Judge Smith in district court race while Moody also leads in governor and county attorney contests. Stamford results favor Moody and Hardwick, with scattered boxes from Anson Lueders and nearby areas. Liberty and Throckmorton counties show close scores for district judge and state representative contests.

Election Returns Draw Crowds in Stamford

A large Saturday night crowd gathered on the square to view The American's election returns posted at the Alcove Theatre and a smaller crowd watched the board in front of the city auditorium. Crowds were orderly and stayed past midnight as returns continued to arrive by wire until 1:30 Sunday morning. The Alcove Theatre and Epworth League cooperated with The American to inform Stamford and surrounding territory, while The American office telephone rang with requests for results.

Rain East of Stamford Benefits Crops

A good rain totaling half an inch or more fell in the country east of Stamford Friday and will aid feed crops. showers occurred in Stamford Friday morning and Saturday afternoon but were not heavy enough to provide significant benefit.

Stamford National Guard Unit Back From Encapment

Stamford Texas National Guard Company K 142nd Infantry returns home from Palacios encampment. Rain delayed some events but the group reported a successful trip. Officers and men listed include Captain Emmett W. Hardwick and multiple sergeants corporals and privates. Also notes Ben Walker and Roy Macon among names. Layne-Yates adds Joel Johnson. FE Lindsay injured at M System Market last Wednesday.

Moody Leads in Texas Democratic Primary Returns

Dan Moody maintained a majority over all opponents in early returns from 201 of 252 counties as of 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Moody led Ferguson and Davidson in the race for governor while Baughman, Speer, and Terrell topped the Railroad Commissioner race and Hawkins led Pierson for the Court of Criminal Appeals. Further returns will be released daily from the Texas Election Bureau.

Mother of Mrs J P Astin Dies Sudden in City

Mrs. J M Page aged 74, mother of Mrs. J P Astin, died unexpectedly at the Astin home early Saturday. She had been in Georgetown and visited her daughter, with the body prepared by Farrow Furniture Co. and sent to Georgetown. Fred C Hale, from Galveston, visited local friends. He is a Henderson native reared in Rusk County, near P D Lambeth and the editor.
