Vast Lueders Baptist Encampment Ends With Record Attendance

The Lueders Baptist Encampment concluded a ten day program drawing an estimated fifteen thousand visitors to the grounds plus 4 000 registered for Sunday School. Dr Geo W Truett led daily sermons and praised the event as a major success with plans to expand facilities and land by fifteen acres funded by over 6 000 dollars pledged during Sunday services.

School Bonds Sold and Work to Begin Monday

The School Board contracted with J Dyer to start modernization on Bomar Heights and Central Ward school buildings next Monday. Bonds approved June 1 were sold at par with accrued interest and a $500 premium. Heating bids for the old high school due August 6. San Antonio Iron Company to install fire escapes for ward buildings. Prof Holland says Stamford schools will be modern and ready for fall opening.

Dallas air engine model by Dr W L Martin to revolutionize power

Dr W L Martin of the Martin Leavitt sewing firm is in Dallas building a model air engine he patented last spring. Researchers there have worked months on a device claimed to use alternate vacuums to generate automatic power. It is touted as a true power engine that can run itself and haul a load, not a perpetual motion machine. If it proves workable, Martin plans to return to Stamford to demonstrate and arrange mass production.

Three Men Head For Rio Grande Valley Camping Trip

C L Rogers, C E Binkley and Dr N H Bickley left early Saturday by auto for a trip to the Rio Grande Valley. They will visit Dr Bickley s Fruit farm among other activities and are camping for a real outing.

Rotary guest Homer Wade visits Stamford city

Homer D Wade longtime Stamford leader and former Rotary president spent Tuesday in Stamford as lunch guest of the Rotary Club. He is now assistant manager of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce in Fort Worth and known for his work for West Texas and his many Stamford friends.

Little Dewane Elliott Hurt By Lawn Mower Accident

Four year old Dewane Elliott, son of Mr and Mrs M F Elliott, severely cut his hand Monday while trying to operate his father's new lawn mower. He was taken to Saritetvum and received several stitches, but is recovering well.

National Guard Unit Returns Home From Camp Mabry

The Texas National Guard company arrived home Saturday after a fifteen day camp and drill at Camp Mabry Austin. They report better conditions than last year in Galveston, enjoying regular army quarters and cooler weather. Most saw the State Capitol and Governor Ma for the first time. the trip is described as good.

The Woman’s Missionary Auxiliary of St John’s Methodist Church served a breakfast Saturday at 8 30 for the Hogg Evangelistic Party from Haskell. Leaders and guests attended a program with piano numbers and talks on consecration and revival themes.

Mrs Risley Dies After Saturday Morning Illness

Mrs Fred Risley died last Saturday morning at the family home in Loeders. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon with interment in the family burial ground near Loeders. The Risley family are longtime locals and mourners extend condolences to the husband and children. Wareow Furniture Company undertook the funeral arrangements on behalf of the family. The community expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

A Fine Buffalo Head On Display At The First National Bank

The First National Bank received a buffalo head mounted for its lobby from a Colorado Springs taxidermist. The buffalo, killed on the RE. V. Colbert ranches last December, sold meat in Stamford, and the bank already显示 mounts several species. Mr. Colbert plans another buffalo from his herd this winter to be mounted for sale.

Rotarians to inaugurate Sweetwater Rotary Club at dinner

Twenty five Rotarians and their Rotary Anns will travel to Sweetwater for a banquet tonight as the new Rotary Club there is instituted and its charter delivered. District Governor Walter Kline of Wichita Falls will speak, and a festive program is planned to inaugurate the group.

Carson graduates from Baylor Law and joins Julian Higher’s firm

Robert C. Carson, son of Mrs. B K Carson of this city, graduated June 10th with honors from Baylor University Law Department in Waco. He has accepted a position in the law offices of Hon. Julian Higher in Ft. Worth and will begin practice immediately, delaying a vacation visit home. The family and many friends extend congratulations.
