Stamford's National Guard Company M, 42nd Infantry, 6th Division, along with the 8th Division, will report to Camp Hood for a two week summer training starting August 15 Capt. Tawman said. Massive chuck wagon feast at Stamford event draws crowd
At the 11th annual Stamford Production Credit Association meeting held on the Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds last Friday, 2,500 people ate hearty with 1500 pounds of beef, 500 pounds of potatoes, 100 pounds of dried beans, 15 gallons of pickles, 50 pounds of onions, coffee, sugar and cream, plus 200 pounds of cabbage, two boxes of apples, 66 pounds of raisins and four gallons of mayonnaise consumed.

The Texas Employment Commission will close the Stamford office Friday afternoon with services to be provided itinerantly from Abilene. A weekly representative will visit Stamford Thursdays to handle unemployment claims and veterans re adjustment allowances, with a seasonal farm labor caretaker during harvest. Manager Clay Beaver will transfer to Abilene, and 110 Texas employees are being laid off as part of budget curtailment.
