Avoca Youth Struck by Pickup Near Bricksdahl
Lonnie Allen Hokanson 17 of Avoca was critically injured about 11:55 p m Saturday when struck by a 1960 Chevrolet pickup driven by Robert Lee Reyes Jr 35 of Lueders while walking along FM 142 nine miles east of Stamford. He suffered a concussion fractures and internal injuries and was taken to Stamford Sanitarium. He remained in serious but improving condition days later as surgery and recovery continued.

Seven Jones Countians invited to unusual reunion
Seven Jones County residents are invited to a first ever reunion of former patients of the Texas Rehabilitation Center at Gonzales near Gonzales on Sunday August 13. About 350 former TRC patients are expected to attend sharing experiences in wheelchairs or on crutches. Vitor Canavespi of Bryan, president of the association, emphasized public education on rehabilitation needs and funding shortfalls.

Funeral Services For G. E. Fisher Held at Jayton
Funeral services for George Edgar Fisher 57 were Monday at 2 p.m. in the Jayton Baptist Church. He died Saturday at 4 p.m. in the VA Hospital in Big Spring after a week’s illness. Rev. Jack Southerland officiated burial followed at Jayton. Survivors include his wife two sons George and Chissom and one sister. He moved to Stamford in 1945 and worked at Stamford Cotton Oil Mill since then. Pallbearers were Charley Taylor Melvin Lee Grady Taylor Ed Springer Leslie Lowe and Howard Weems.

Lake Stamford Spillway Used as Water Levels Drop
Lake Stamford level began receding after the spillway carried floodwaters for the first time since 1953. On Wednesday the elevation was about 1415 feet with the spillway at 1414 feet. water is expected to fall slowly toward 1414.2 feet where it can bypass, causing evaporation to influence stabilization. Few property damages were noted as some fields still hold water and Fish Haven at Lake Stamford State Park ferries customers by boat to the barge.

New Varieties of Cotton to Be Discussed Monday
Progress in developing new cotton breeds for this area will be reviewed at a meeting Monday night sponsored by the Jones County Young Farmers. L. F E.
