Oldtimers turn out for Stent reunion at Bunkhouse
The Texas Cowboy Reunion Association drew 255 oldtimers to the Bunkhouse for registration and fellowship. Six past presidents attended, including Jasper Beavers of Munday and Lem Ivy of Stamford who was re elected for one more year. Officers elected include Andy Jones and A W Mackey as vice presidents and Davis Jones as secretary treasurer. A memorial service remembered eleven members as Rev Jarrell Sharp preached on neighborliness and happiness from honesty and community.

Nominations sought for CofC board meeting in Stamford
The Stamford Chamber of Commerce nominating committee led by Vice President Jerry Terrell will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday July 12 in the Museum Board Room. Nominees for three year director terms will be selected and more than five names may be submitted for the ballot sent to all members in August. The five top vote getters will become active directors Oct 1 after city council approval. All chamber members are invited to attend and submit names. election date to be announced later.

Hundreds Enter TCR Horse Show at Stamford Arena
The 49th Texas Cowboy Reunion hosted the second largest horse show in Stamford with 591 entries over two days. Winners included Jay Richardson of Seymour in open youth on Tom Cat, and age division victors Melissa Hargett Coleman and Mitzi Coltharp Seymour. Renee Hawkins Aspermont led in registered youth with Priss Speck for 10 points, Rod Edwards Holiday scored eight points on Yancee, and Pam Vick Brickenridge won the AQHA saddle aboard Front Page Model.

Samford conducts cleanup of derelict buildings downtown
In Samford, cleanup efforts have intensified with several dilapidated structures being leveled by bulldozers and heavy equipment. Beggs Implement and First National Bank funded 1500 toward the project, with manpower from Andy Anderson and Leon Hargrove. Other sites include the old hospital and a defunct West McHarg lumber yard.

Country Club golf tournament slated here
Stamford Country Club will host its Men's July Partnership Golf Tournament Friday through Sunday July 13-15. Pro-Am starts about 9 a.m. Friday with a $4 entry per person. 36-hole medal play has shotgun starts Saturday at 9:30 and 1:30, and Sunday same times. Entry is $60 per team. Prizes include Wilson irons and woods. A free barbecue supper for entrants and their wives is planned Saturday night.

Texas Cowboy Reunion paid out about 23 253 dollars and 60 cents in prize money to top cowboys excluding go round and sponsor awards. Rick Carver of Andrews won calf roping with 34 4 total time earning 878 80 and a new saddle. Billy Teague of Crane and Wesley Williams of Jacksboro claimed close placings. Connie Mac Gibbs of Winters dominated roping with 1635 40 total prize. James Fisher of Sunset led bull riding with 1206 prize. Bob Wilfong Stephenville won first in saddle bronc with 300. Nita Jacobs of Vernon won the sponsor's saddle with a 19.443 clocking representing J. K. Training Stables at the 49th Texas Cowboy Reunion. Kathy Johnson of Abilene took silver spurs with 19.468 for Triple Three Trailers of Stamford, while Beth Crump earned a belt buckle for third with 19.488 for Crump Ranch.

Stamford County Line Independent School District approves taxing automobiles and trucks for 1979. It also sets July 27 as the deadline for agriculture use valuation open space land applications and July 15 for homestead exemptions. Stamford Considers Private Garbage Plan and Meeting Day Change
Stamford city council weighs private garbage collection to cut costs and meet state health rules as the sanitary landfill is upgraded. Texas Cowboy Reunion Art Show Sees $72,000 in Sales
The sixth annual Texas Cowboy Reunion art show and sale reported 72 thousand dollars in sales led by many pieces in the 500 to 3000 dollar range. The top piece sold for 4500 dollars. Chairman G C Carothers credited community volunteers and noted 90 percent of net profits go to West Texas Rehabilitation Center with 10 percent to the reunion for gallery maintenance.
