Crowds of about 30,000 lined Stamford streets Friday to watch a lively parade featuring 500 horses, two bands, and numerous floats from Girl and Boy groups. Haskell County Sheriff's Posse earned first prize for riding clubs, with Fisher County posse second and Breckenridge riding club third. Sub Deb float won $50 for organizational floats, First Baptist Church beginners' float earned $25, and other contingents showcased TexAs imagery and home economics groups amid a festive rodeo atmosphere.

Graham Resident Treated After Truck Train Crash
T. M. Ward age 25 of Graham was treated and released at Stamford Sanitarium for injuries from a truck and train collision on highway 18 east of Lueders. Ward, a driver for Schlumberger Oil Well Service, was carrying explosives requiring electronic discharge. Kinney Funeral Home ambulance transported him to the hospital.

Stamford Girls Join McMurry Summer Twirling School
A Stamford girl and another from Lueders are accepted for McMurry College's annual summer band and twirling school at Abilene July 10 to 23. Dr. Raymond T. Bynum, director, expects about 450 attendees with instruction in twirling, instruments, band work and marching for middle and high school students. Cheryl McCown of Lueders and Sue Raley of Stamford will receive twirling instruction.

Frame Dwelling Hit by Blaze in Stamford
Fire of undetermined origin damaged a four room frame dwelling at 506 South Haskell in Stamford. Occupants the Bill Lopez family were away from the city for several weeks and were expected to return later in the week. Insurance status unknown. blaze likely started in a clothes closet.

The Stamford fire department reported June had about a call per day with no appreciable insured losses. June included 13 grass fires nine inside and four outside the city. Insured losses were nil for June and in most early 1960 months, with May totaling 30,700 and a year grand total of 40,500.

Three Youths Injured In Auto Accident Near College Lake
A July 4 holiday crash near College Lake left three youths injured. Charles Wood 15 of Baird endured scalp lacerations and knee injuries, Charles Boyd 23 of Baird suffered elbow fractures and nerve impairment, and Billy Smith 16 of Abilene received lip and elbow cuts before being dismissed. The 1955 car was completely demolished and investigators noted a 160 foot skid.

Avoca Ex-Students held a Saturday gathering at the Avoca school to elect officers for a three year term and pay respects to deceased members. R O Smith of Yuoea was named president with R T Taylor vice president Woody Mifaker treasurer Mrs Glenn Rennels historian Joel Grimes and Mrs Nita Jared elected secretary. The oldest attendee was Mrs Glenn Rennels, a ninth grade entrant in 1909. Alberta Sylvester from California traveled the farthest to attend. About 500 were present and more than 300 enjoyed barbecue as the group planned its next meeting for 1963.

Stamford and Snyder area National Guard unit Company A completed a two week field training at Fort Hood with 13 superior and 17 excellent ratings. Soldiers excelled in firearms contests with Sgt. Margaret A. Hellihan 92 died at her Rockdale home Monday afternoon. Services were held Wednesday morning at St. Ann's Church officiated by Father James Millree, with burial at Rockdale cemetery. Born November 15, 1867 in Earlville, she came to Rockdale from Fort Worth in 1917. Survivors include son Joe Rellihan Hico two daughters Mrs. A F Shaw Mrs Barbara Willoughby both of Leed ers 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
