Alleged Hijacker Caught Here After Call From Abilene

A young man identified as Rex Weldon from Hobbs New Mexico was arrested within hours after allegedly holding up Huey J Rogers of Abilene at gunpoint and stealing his nearly new Dodge coupe. Abilene officers traced the car and Weldon after a police radio description, and he was jailed on robbery with firearms charges.

Local Exchange Club Meeting Postponed To Saturday

The Stamford Exchange club will hold its regular weekly meeting on Saturday instead of Friday due to the Fourth of July. President Frank B. Ramey announced the change this morning. New officers will be installed at Saturday's meeting and plans for the next six months will be outlined.

The Stamford Chamber of Commerce signs to host a Texas Co operative Cotton Association branch for the coming season. A $5 000 guaranteed underwrite is targeted with current signees at 8600 and more expected to reach 10 000. The effort covers Stamford and much of Jones County with farmer outreach and member benefits including free classing and immediate cash settlement through a local bank.

Improvements Draw Big Attendance For Encampment On Clear Fork

Leaders and officials predict the largest annual assembly at the Clear Fork encampment opening July 8 near Leeders. Twenty one new buildings, utilities, a well, cafeteria, and meals for ten dollars over twelve days are planned along with a dense program of sermons lectures and recreational activities led by Dr. Wallace Hassett and ex-governor Pat M. Three jailed after weekend car theft and wholesale burglary

A Buick belonging to J. T. Brown was stolen Saturday night from Hedberg Garage and found Sunday night. three youths were arrested in Hobbs New Mexico after a tip. The same group allegedly robbed the Wooten Grocery and a local wholesale grocery, with hidden loot and altered car identifiers. hotel burglaries across Stamford are under police investigation with no arrests reported.

Pioneer Cattlemen Form Texas Cowboy Reunion Organization

The Pioneer Cattlemen Farm Organization led by Pennick formed a Texas Cowboy Reunion group at a gathering last week in Stamford. Cal V Penick was elected president with Joe A Matthews as first vice president and Dock Ellie as second vice president. Bud Smith is secretary and BR V Colbert treasurer. A bylaws committee includes KF Coombes chairman John M Gist and Jon Jay. Oldtimers who worked ranches 35 years ago will compose the membership. 335 attendees received a Cowboy Reunion badge. The Pioneer Cattlemen meet annually in Stamford during the Texas Cowboy Reunion.

Leavitt announces a military golf tournament at the Thins Dink Golf Linka on Highway No. 1 east of Stamford with two flights of 52 players each. First Annual Show Proves Success in Every Particular

The Tease Cowboy Reunion drew around 12,000 attendees over three days with parades rodeos and Indian shows. Calf roping attracted 50 entries while wild cow milking drew 45 and the rodeo drew strong crowds with 61 entrants overall. Notable contestants included Matthews Newark and York Sweder. profits will be announced after a directors meeting.
