Captain Wright Armstrong of the Old Gray Mare Band now a T and B railroad agent attended the West Texas Chamber of Commerce directors meeting in Stamford. He said Jones county can attract many eastern and central state visitors this year. Garland Eubank and F. E. Negg of Throckmorton joined the meeting and spoke of oil and gas prospects between Throckmorton and Stamford. C. C. Goodwin of Breckenridge reported a new mammoth board at Metcalf Gap to direct traffic through Breckenridge, Stamford and Spur with Stamford named in large letters. Goodwin predicted traffic to the Plains via Breckenridge and Stamford would treble soon.

Legion Post to Hold Luncheon Each Month in Stamford
The American Legion will host a monthly luncheon with the Legion Auxiliary as guests in alternate months. The first gathering is set for the second Monday in February at 7:40 p.m. Stamford won the attendance cup at the Seventeenth district convention in Ranger, with six delegates traveling 105 miles, the largest mileage in the district. The post aims to defend the cup in Breckenridge in April. An ex-soldiers reunion is planned for Stamford July 5-7 under post auspices, with an ways and means committee to organize grounds and arrangements.

Narrow escape from wreck near Albany during Ranger trip

Wichita Valley seeks to end night trains between Wichita Falls and Abilene
In rail circles the Wichita Valley plans to annul night service between Wichita Falls and Abilene. Southbound train 5 25 a m and northbound 8 50 p m would be dropped only with Texas railroad Commission approval. Chambers of commerce along the line vow to fight to retain the trains, which have operated for years aside from a shopmen strike. The move would affect several train workers headquartered here and create extra board positions.
