Pvt Russell Gill, believed POW of Japan since 1942, wrote to his parents Mr and Mrs R A Gill of Lubbock. The letter dated August 23 1944 says he is in good health and working daily after receiving one package home. He asks for snapshots and letters as he awaits a reunion. Gill served with the ground service of the Air Forces at Clark Field Luzon at the war’s start and may have been captured at Bataan or Corregidor. He graduated Stamford High School in 1940.

Pilot Lt Billy Miller Killed in Army Plane Crash
The 2nd Lieut. William Walter Miller Jr. was fatally injured in a B 24 crash near Courtland Alabama Sunday night. He was born in 1920 at Van Horn and grew up in Stamford. He trained at Napier Field, Max wel l, and other bases and was to sail overseas after completing flight training. Funeral services were held at St John s Methodist Church in Stamford with burial in Highland cemetery.
