Fire at Rutherford Home on East Oliver Street
Fire caused by a defective flue damaged the Rutherford residence of Dr. J. H. Rutherford on East Oliver Street Wednesday morning. The blaze was controlled by the fire department with chemicals. The department also answered an early Sunday call to the northern city limits but found no fire.

The Fort Worth Star Telegram runs a long feature on Joseph R. Bircham of Stamford, a Civil War veteran famed for his vivid reminiscences. He fought at Mansfield Prairie Grove Pleasant Hill Helena and Lone Jack in thirty skirmishes and recalled meeting Jeff Davis. He joined the Confederacy by swearing allegiance on August 13 1861 after avoiding northern conscription.
