Staff Sgt Joe Weeks Wounded in New Caledonia Near Topeka
Staff Sgt Joe Weeks son of Mr and Mrs L E Weeks was accidentally wounded in New Caledonia on September 16 and is hospitalized in Topeka Kansas where his wife visits him. S-Sgt. James S. Tunnell aged 20 serves as an aerial gunner on a B-24 Liberator stationed in India. He has been overseas since September 1943 after training in Salt Lake City Denver Ft. Tech Sergeant Woodrow W. Johnson of the Marine Corps has taken part in five major air engagements since arriving in the South Pacific area. Gunner Johnson in Dauntless Mission That Sunk Destroyer
Technical Sergeant Woodrow Johnson U S Marine 23 of Stamford Connecticut served as radio gunner on a Dauntless during two bombing campaigns against Japanese ground targets and ships in the South Pacific. He recalls intercepting a 10 ship task force off Rendova Island and a 12 plane Zero attack before the destroyer sank after bombs hit the bow. Johnson describe many bombing and strafing runs over Munda nickname milk run and notes a mission where his plane took multiple hits but returned. He enlisted January 1942 and is the son of Mr and Mrs W W Johnson of Haskell. his wife Bernice Cole and daughter Mary Kay reside in Stamford.

Illness Ends in Death of Mrs. John Clark at Avoca
Mrs. John A. Clark of Avoca aged 60 died Monday at Stamford Sanitarium after a long illness. She lived in Avoca with her husband, Florida Clark, and left two sons Florice of El Paso and Staff Sgt. Dave Clark, and two daughters Mrs. Artie Smith Seni and Mrs.mieills Lagerton. Burial was in Funston Cemetery after services at the Local Church. Mrs. Clark was born Martha Alice Pope in Texas on June 26 1883 and was a longtime Baptist. The Kinney Funeral Home handled arrangements.
