Livestock Show Judging Set For Saturday Morning

Judging begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Tri-Area Livestock Show. The event takes place at the livestock association show barn on the Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds beside the Quarter Horse barns on FM 2834. Swine will enter the show arena first.

More Marriages and Fewer Divorces in Jones County 1976

Jones County records show 1976 had 186 marriages and 107 divorces, compared with 1975 figures of 209 marriages and 99 divorces. June and August led marriage licenses with 28 and 25, while April was slow with 9 licenses. Divorces peaked or dropped unevenly, with February and November at five filings each in 1976. Rotan couple's tenth child first Rotan baby of 1977

Ronnie Phillip Martinez was born at 11 53 a m on January 1 1977 at a Rotan hospital weighing nine pounds seven ounces. The boy is the tenth child of Joe and Janie Martinez and Stamford merchants planned gifts for Stamford s first newborn of 1977. The birth required a Caesarean section by Dr Tony Selmon.

Bicentennial year in Stamford brought a livestock showbarn and Day Care Center, housing work, a Cowboy Country Museum idea, and a Bulldogs district win. Bloodmobile visit falls short of quota in Red River drive

Slightly over two thirds of the 90 unit goal were collected during the Red River Regional Red Cross Bloodmobile stop on December 28. Of 72 potential donors, 63 pints were drawn and nine were rejected for health reasons while hospital officials note 113 volunteers would be needed to meet the target. The drive brings Stamford’s 1976 blood totals to 281 pints with many local residents signing up to donate.

Local firms donate to WTRC televised auction

West Texas Rehabilitation Center receives $35 000 in merchandise from Abilene firms Wedgco Implement and General Welding Works. Wedgco pledges a seven shank chisel plow valued at 780 dollars and General Welding a 10 by 20 building valued at 1060 dollars. Over 30 items from Abilene Hamlin Haskell Coleman and other West Texas towns will be auctioned on January 8. Viewers may bid by watching the TV fundraiser.
