Stamford PCA brings Dwight Griggs on as loan representative

Dwight Griggs has been employed as loan representative in the Stamford office of Rolling Plains Production Credit Association, effective January 3 1978. He is 35, husband, reared in Hamlin, Hamlin High School graduate 1960. He earned a 1964 Texas A&M degree in agricultural economics, pursued graduate work at Texas Tech, studied Spanish in Mexico City, taught in Aspermont, worked with Federal Land Bank Associations including Perryton, and most recently led training at the Federal Land Bank of Berkeley California. He is the son of Mr and Mrs C W Griggs of Hamlin.

Lueders-Avoca FHA to host WTRC benefit game

Lueders Avoca FHA girls stage a Powder Puff football game on Thursday January 12 at 7 p.m. in the Lueders stadium with all proceeds going to West Texas Rehabilitation Center. They will solicit donations in the Lueders Avoca area from January 8 through January 13.

Pesticide training planned at Texas A&M center

A four day pesticide applicator training session will be held at the Texas A&M Research and Extension Center in San Angelo from January 23 through 26. The meeting aims to qualify commercial and noncommercial applicators for licensing. Interested individuals should contact the county agent's office for details.

Rotary Club picks Stamford official as president

Don Howard, president of the Stamford school system, was named president of the Rotary Club for the year starting July 1 after last week’s election. He succeeds Danny Blain. Joe Smith Upshaw was named vice president, I A Russell was re elected secretary treasurer, Blain becomes a director, replacing Wayland Fuqua, and Robert Duggan fills a board vacancy.

Health clinic set for Stamford on January 18

The Texas Department of Health Region 4 will run a free screening clinic at the Stamford Library Building from 9:30 to 12 and 1 to 3. Services cover diabetes high blood pressure and TB skin tests with follow up referrals if needed. A monthly nursing clinic will occur at the same time and location. Public invited.

Weather extremities mark a dry 1977 year in Stamford

The year 1977 brought extreme temperatures and erratic rainfall with five of twelve months above normal and seven below. Stamford recorded a total of 17.75 inches of rain, the last four months yielding only 2.67 inches. January averaged 26.9 degrees, while August and September highs approached 97 degrees. The 1978 outlook remained cautious as recent falls show limited underground seasoning.
