A Monday fire in Stamford gutted the cafeteria and caused smoke damage to four other stores. Fire Chief Dick Rowland said loss could not be determined until inventories are complete. Nearby buildings Western Auto, Hi Fashion, Montgomery Ward Catalog Store, and Fabric Shop were treated for smoke odor.

Tony Jenkins Signs Contract With Cowboys
Tony Jenkins son of Mr and Mrs W A Jenkins of Stamford signed a one year contract with a one year option with the Dallas Cowboys for kicking only. He will report to the camp in July after completing Stamford High School in 1963. He attended the University of Oklahoma for two years and West Texas State University in Canyon. Jenkins works for Independent Insurance Company in Amarillo and plans to build up for horse racing.

Wynn Robinson four year letterman at Crosbyton High School was named to the Fort Worth Star Telegram 1-A All-State Dream Team honorable mention players. Making Way for the New Bank on Swenson and Hamilton
The old Spencer Lumber Co building on Swenson and Hamilton streets is being cleared for the First National Bank. Salvage work should take 60 to 90 days depending on weather, with contractor A. P. Boegner overseeing the project. Built circa 1907 to 1908, it once housed hardware, the post office, professional offices, and a Chevrolet agency with an elevator for auto repairs. The basement fire left charred columns, and the building has been vacant for over a year.
