Texas Agricultural Experiment Station reports new Early Hegari that matures about ten days earlier than standard Hegari and yields reliably under dry conditions. Onita, a Hegari Kafir feterita hybrid, is a double dwarf with high grain production and early ripening and Bonita was released in 1942 for sorghum growers. A milo hybrid with chinch bug resistance derives from hegari lineage and suits the Northern Rolling Plains.

W H Crawford Dies at Haskell on Christmas Day
W H Crawford of Haskell aged 88 died Christmas Day after illness. He was father of Sam Crawford of Stamford and had lived in Stamford earlier and in Jones county since 1896. Funeral at First Baptist Church Haskell with burial in Highland Cemetery. survived by wife, four sons, four daughters, 32 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Staff Sgt Clyde Day and his nephew Pfe Raymond Day, both in North Africa on Thanksgiving, met by chance in a small town. Hamlin Boy Loses Leg After Accidental Rabbit Shot
Jerry Frank Waggoner 14, son of Frank G. Waggoner of Hamlin, was accidentally shot by a 12 gauge shotgun while rabbit hunting Monday. The wound necessitated amputation above the knee. Jerry Frank is grandson of Jerry Waggoner who founded Hamlin’s Waggoner Drug Store now run by his father.

Jesse Allison 68, from Waco, died Saturday evening in Stamford. Funeral held Thursday at Sims Chapel Methodist Church with pallbearers listed. Barrow Funeral Home in charge. He was known as an institution for outdoor feeds and barbecue events and once traveled to Connecticut for a barbecue gathering. His wife Mary Allison works at the Stamford post office. they had no children.
