St Pauls Lutheran Church Sagerton will host dedication and homecoming services on Sunday March 2 led by Rev O K Oelke and Rev F Bracher. A noon basket dinner follows a morning 10 45 service with art glass windows baptismal font chimes organ and new furnishings to be blessed. Open house all day and an afternoon service at 3 00 will feature Rev L D Braun. The Sagerton church with about 100 families and 200 communicants belongs to the American Lutheran Church in the National Lutheran Council.

Stamford Improves Finances Over Two Decades Says Westfall
Mayor Clyde Westfall told the Rotary Club Stamford’s finances have improved since 1933 when bonds could be bought at 50 cents on the dollar. Bonded debt, notes, and delinquent taxes have fallen, city assets rose from 279 thousand to 369 thousand, and water project funding advances with planned lake water by next year.

Stamford Hamlin Mayors Sign Water Contract

City Lets Contract For Clearing Land At New Lake Site
Stamford City Council awarded the contract to clear land for the Paint Creek lake. C. G. Thompson and Thomas F. Hill of Paris Texas submitted the low base bid of 62917 with 90 working days. Bids covered 2806 acres in city title and two future tracts with bidders’ days ranging from 36 to 180. Bad Check Artist Confession Ties to Forgery Charges
A. B. Standifer confessed to forgeries in Jones and Haskell counties on Friday after being arrested Thursday night. The 16 year old African American man testified before County Attorney Charles Brownfield and local officials and will face a Jones county grand jury and Haskell county charges. Forged checks ranged from 7 to 37.45 dollars, used for merchandise purchases at multiple Stamford merchants. An accomplice, 14 year old Alberta Russell, was not detained due to age.

William Calloway Workman 82 of Jones county died Friday night in Stamford Hospital after a period of illness. The funeral was Sunday at Kinney Funeral Chapel with Rev. Charlies I. Vike of St. John's Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery. Survived by his wife Mrs Magpie Bowles and a brother Ballard Workman of Kaufman.
