The Arledge Stock farms of Knox City owned by Roy and Henry Arledge captured the Lee Sanders trophy at the Shackelford County Hereford Breeders Association sale in Albany. Harford Tone 128d led the line as the winning bull, marking the farms second consecutive win and permanent possession of the trophy. Second and third went to J. F. Ross and Son and W. J. Dodson respectively. The Arledge herd will display Friday at the San Angelo Fat Stock Show where a prior bull won the grand champion title. Twenty five breeders enrolled this year, with keen competition expected. permanent possession will require five years of wins.

Caravan of 5000 Troops to Move Through Stamford Friday
More than ten thousand troops in 1104 trucks and other vehicles will move from Fort Sill Oklahoma to Camp Barkeley near Abilene Friday. About half the force will pass Stamford Friday afternoon along two routes through Vernon Stamford and through Wichita Falls Throckmorton and Albany. Troops begin passing Stamford between 2 and 3 p.m. and continue for about five hours.

Mrs. Joe F. Long age 70 died Thursday night after a short illness. She lived at South Berthelot since 1901. Funeral held at Kinney Chapel conducted by Rev W Carr Clement with burial in Highland Cemetery. Survivors include husband W B Long of Abilene and children T B Hele A R Davis and R R Williham. 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. February Rain Above Normal Sees Local Totals
Rainfall in February totaled 1.66 inches at the George Smith farm near Stamford from February 19 to 27, raising February to 1.66 inches and the year to 2.83 inches. The Soil Conservation office notes February is 1.12 percent of normal, with year to date at 1.27 percent. Bill Bridges, one of Stamford's earliest Negro citizens, died Sunday at 5 p.m. He was 67. He was the first Negro employed by Stamford hospital and had many friends among white and Black residents. His wife Alice thanks friends for kindnesses.

About 160 U S army trucks carrying Oklahoma National Guardsmen from Fort Sill to Camp Barkeley passed through Stamford on Sunday. The procession traveled in blocks of 15 to 20 trucks via Vernon and Seymour, with spectators watching along North Swenson avenue. Born in Mexico City, he will soon become a citizen and works as a missionary with the Sweetwater and Jones County Baptist associations. The talk noted most Texas Mexicans are raised in the U S and responsibility lies with the United States. Four Mexican girls from Abilene’s Americanization School sang in Spanish, with Hiram Arrant and Rev. Dick O’Brien helping arrange the program and committee appointments for a future WPA home making project.
